Thread: Squadrons

I think it would be interesting to be able to form Squadrons like we do guilds. Have players form a hiarchy, for example a Squadron could have up to 12-24 members, and each member would get there own designation, like GAT 5() or some such.

Discuss.

And why do you need the game to have these ranks? You could easily get together before hand and say who is squadron leader and so on. In theory you could have one guy in a ship commanding multiple squadron leaders over voice chat in big battles. No need to add in more code to the game.

Why add meaningless stuff. just place a guild hall and form a guild like you do and conduct space operations When the JTL comes out i will be forming a squadron but will be leaving the names of the wings topilots. Allready have my plan how to set up everything just need to wait out.

While becoming a high ranked Jedi master is a grand title to attempt to achieve, I think it kind of denies a huge portion of the Star Wars Universe. Maybe this idea can help!

I purpose that FIGHT GROUPS are created. Flight Groups are basically upgrades to a guild that wishes to participate in the PvP aspect of JTL. Within these Flight Groups is an elite group of 12 pilots known as a SQUADRON. The 12 positions in the Squadron are achieved by members of the Flight Group by way of a Point System. Points are gained and lost in internal compititions set up by the Flight Group or individuals in the Squadron. Along with positions in the Squadron come a title with the Flight Group name and position number that can be displayed above your characters head for all to see. ex. Baxtar Alsoa point system can be created for compitition between enemy squadrons. The reward for being one of the top 5 squadrons per faction is a chance to buy aSpace Station for your Flight Group to defend and an upgrade to your guild towns shuttleport to a Spaceport to increase commerce. Another reason to be in a Squadron is the ability to have a kill record aginst enemy squadron members for all to see when they examine you.

Thats my basic idea and below is some finer point to the ranking system

*SQUADRON POINT SYSTEM

Each person inthe squadron maintains a certain number of points starting at 30 points for position 12 and each rank above that increases by 30 points. Durring internal compitition a person of lower rank challenges the person above them for their spot. The lower ranked person must defeat the higher ranked person in 2 out 3 battles to claim their spot and the points that go along with it. To pervent a person from obtaining a position and just not competing to keep that position, your character will lose 2 points a day until you participate in a compitition and your points get restored to their full position level. Therefore your position must be challenged once every 15 days.

*GALAXY RANKING SYSTEM

Each time you make a kill of a faction enemy Squadron member your FIght Group gets a number of points based on the position in the Squadron of hte enemy. The Fight Group of the enemy you killed looses a coresponding amount of points. This should be fair to all considering the more skilled pilots will hold better positions. The 5 Flight Groups with the highest total points get the option to buy a Space Station. If this station is destroyed the Fight Group looses a massive amount of points and must reach a top 5 spot again to get another. The destroyers of the station will get a massive amount of points for their Flight Group. This sysyem keeps the number of Space Stations lower as Flight Groups will be seeking to go after them to get the high number of points. Along with the chance to get a Station is that the top 5 Flight groups per faction get their Shuttleport upgraded to a small Spaceport. Then characters in space can land inthat Flight Groups townwhile they hold one of those spots.

*Things to also consider

-You can't challenge for a position in the Squadron until you have the top piloting skill box.

-You can't challenge for a position in the Squadron until you reach a ceratin faction rank.

-Each Squadron has its own "crest" that they can put on their flight suit and fighters for all to see.

-Pilots who are not Squadron can still earn points for their Flight Group but only by killing Squadron ranked enemies.

-Only Squadron pilots may agro on a Space Station so different Squadrons may team up to take one down.

-All Squadron members are OVERT while in space.

That sounds like an idea that a member of my guild had. Kinda.

heres the thing tho... a leader of the squadran or of the guild should appoint who is in the squadran, it shouldnt be a thing that guild members are ranked on, maybe entire guilds, but not individuals - individual competition can tear a guild appart if SWG governs it, if guild or squadran leaders govern it people are less likely to dispise eachother.

but that space station and starport thing is just lame.

Does anyone know if when groups fly together they will get group 'squadron chat' in space and end up with ships named like:

Group leader: Alpha 1 for example

2nd person in group: Alpha 2 etc?

Definatly a good idea.. We can only hope they will add some type of group system in space.

Either that or I'd guess you'd still have your GuildChat and other tabs up in space. So you could probably create a chat room or something at least..

I figured it would still work like Group chat but it would still be your names and not squadron names such as Gold leader and Gold 1. You could always get Teamspeak and use that for squadron talk

Yeah, TeamSpeak is 10 times easier, saves you the hassle of stopping what you're doing to type. Just use that, or Ventrilo.
