Thread: New to JTL Basic questions re things to do...

I beta'd the game a long time ago, and left shortly after launch (curse you, HAM bars). After reading about the combat upgrade, JTL, and RotW, it sounded as if most of my problems with the game had been addressed. So here I am again.

Anyway, I LOVE JTL - combat is a blast, graphics are gorgeous, etc. My only problem is finding things to do. The only thing I've found to do so far is take duty missions from the rebel trainer in Mos Espa. This gives me seemingly an endless supply of spawns to fight, but after doing wave after wave, I was wondering if there was more to it.

Are there more complex missions, like in the ground game? More things to do besides blast spawns?

I visited one of the POI's on my datapad, the Rebel Ruins, but it didn't look like I could do anything there. Just check out a floating, destroyed ship. I thought maybe I could dock with it and fight pirates in there on foot or something, but it didn't appear that was so. And if all I can do is blast TIE's and pirates in space, then what's the point of the different planet-space zones? Seems like the TIE's in one area are just as good as another.

Thank you in advance for any guidance you can provide!!

I was wondering the same thing myself. It seems rather repetitive...

Explore. There are mission strings available from lots of different space stations, and those in turn lead to other Duty missions or other bonuses after you complete them. For new pilots, there are 3 NPCs in Tatoo space that pay great money and have good short mission strings to help you get xp in your first two tiers.

Also, as a Rebel you can get Duty missions from any Rebel trainer, so if you want a wider variety, remember that. Also, if your mission is versus Imperial targets, consider flying Overt and gaining faction for every kill. You're vulnerable to other players, but the thrill of PvP is a whole other world in JtL.

If you have Rage of the Wookiees, there are lots of quests that are either totally in space, or mix space/ground.

Enjoy!

Yes, I do have RotW - and it's good to hear it offers ground-space missions. What I don't want is infinite spawns, like duty missions are. As long as the missions are more substantive than that, I'm happy.

And I'll eventually go overt - but I've had the game for only three days now, so I'd like to first at least learn what I'm doing.

Also, I haven't seen any NPC's in Tatooine space. Is there a list of where I can find them? Otherwise, I'd just be flying around randomly....

Thanks!

I'm fairly new at JTL as well, but I can say that Duty missions are meant to be repetitive. They are mainly for grinding up your XP. You can quit them at any time by leaving the sector, or I believe you can talk to the recruiter again.

Also, I've found the training in JTL is quite linear. You can only train at certain times between missions, and can only train one row of boxes at a time (meaning you can't train all the way up the "Equipment" tree in lieu of all the others). So it's quite different from the ground game in that regard. It seems like you CAN train multiple times in between certain missions if need be, so I guess it's not too linear.

The real fun starts when you earn certification for the higher level ships, or when you start flying the fat PoB ships (People on Board, multiplayer) with your friends. Equipping those bad boys can be mind-boggling at times (as in hours spent sifting through the bazaar and it's Vendor search capability), but it's very enjoyable. Hunting down that perfect part for a bargain is pretty neat.

One is near Tatoo station, near the parked empty freighters. One is near the Hutt Claims POI. One is near the Nallera Mining POI. They are all white dots on radar so you need to cycle all targets to find them, then /comm them.

Awesome - thank you so much!

I was starting to get a bit nervous when all I could find were those repetitive missions - good to hear there's a lot more to it.

When you say to fly overt, do you mean combatant or special forces?

Neither. Overt in space is separate from your ground GCW status. You need to launch, fly to a faction station and comm them to declare.

there are key commands to cycle through targets in your area, don;t hunt and peck with your radar, cycle targets, or point your ship at something and hit x, which targets what's under your reticle.

I think I found the hutt one - he said he had no business with someone not of the hutt faction - but couldn't find the rest. The problem I was having was finding the white dots. On my radar, other players show up as white dots (unless the dots are acutally blue, but if so the dots are so small as to be indistinguishable from white), so I'd chase a dot down, only to find it was another player.
