I have been seeing this question asked back and forth so I want to put it to rest. You do not need the CD to install JTL!! You only put in the CD Key and it will download something. YOu restart your launchpad and it downloads the big JTL hunka file. When its done then your are good to go. This is confirmed and tested by me!

do you even get a cd in the case then? cos if so, whats the point if it downloads a "hunka" file?

exactly! 
the cd is for dialup. Will make the download much quicker but you really dont need it

yes thats true, but because SOE are tight they ask you to install from CD to save bandwidth, as if us europeans havnt been screwed enough
My gamestop item is in transit now, looks like ill get it way before it arrives in UK officially.

Wow !!!
But then why is there even a retail CD ??
Why not just sell top-up little cards with serial nos on ???
Surely SOE wouldnt create all those shiny silver discs as just an unnecessary marketing ploy ??

If that is true, this is a whole new level of stupidity.
As you can see at the forums, a lot of ppl are very unhappy with the release. So why does not soe just sell the keys online and let you download the game? They could make a lot more money this way. Now they have to sharethemoneywith retailers and their costumers (at least in europe) are unhappy.

I dont know why they use disks. once i get mine from gamestop im just gonna enter the key and see what happens without using the CD
FYI the one I ordered from gamestop is in transit now. So i might get it tomorrow or monday.

The reason for the CD is to force us mugs to pay and extra £30 for code that could be patched out for free to existing subscribers. it about the money folks!

All they needed to do was add the ability to buy a cd key on the website...but ohh no, its too difficult to handle that

I wish you could buy cd keys over the internet. I want to get an alt account to make a doctor and I really dont feel like spending 30bucks for another retail copy of the game that I will never even open!
