I did this mission last night and am 3/3/3/3... was quite easy at that level.

See if you can find some rebel pilots to give you a hand.

I still don't see why it's called an "Abandoned" Rebel Base

I think it's just the cleaners that have abandoned it!

I did that mission yesterday at 2211, it was tough and i think i failed the first part because i got jumped by 2 tier 4s i had to sort out.

If you got past the decimator and the transports jumped in then all you had to do was kill the ties (which are going after the bait rather than you) and the mission is over if you kill all 8 ties then you should get a mission over message. If you check your datapad youll see you dont have a mission. Then you just go to the dant station and the dude there will talk to you and give you access.

It is tough for someone mid tier 2 but i did it by the skin of my teeth (armour was pretty much gone)

I do remember getting a mission complete message, but then I automatically got a new waypoint and was told to go protect some freighters. Is this normal or did I get bugged?

Thats right, I had to escort a frieghter and then go blow up all the ties harrassing another load of frieghters and then it was all done.

Thanks. I will try again and bring a wingman or two then. I only just made it to that part and those harrassing ties were just too much for me in the end! I think I could do with giving my y-wing an overhaul too first, its in a bad way

Hi,

After hearing that Imps can now land directly at the Emperors Retreat, I thought I'd see if we Rebels could land at the Abandoned Base on Dant. I am a member of Vortex Squadren and I have to go here for my TIER 2 training (I am currently 1211 and flying a Y-wing). Sure enough, I can now get a mission to allow me to land at 'a certain location'. However, I spent over an hour trying to complete the mission and gave up in the end. So far I have managed to get through three parts of it, but its just seems far too difficult for my level. The first part involves disabling a freighterthat is guared by 5 TIER 3 ties, after this you have to escort said ship while it gets attacked by around 5 more TIER 3 ties, following that I had to take out an Imperial Decimator (TIER 2) which is supported by several more TIER 3 ties of various types, and then after that I had to prevent another squadron of various Ties from attacking another group of freighters. I could not get past this point after 5 or 6 attempts and my ship is in a bad way too It just seems much easier to just keep biking it from the Mining Outpost to get my training. Having checked the latest patch notes it says:

Dantooine:

  • Tier 2+, Specific story missions for all pilots, rebel pilots, and smuggler pilots.

OK, fair enough then I suppose I am in over my head, but why can't I get a mission of my own level to land their, seeing as I NEED to go there for my Vortex Squadron TIER 2 training?

From an Alliance Pilot's perspective (imps and neutrals....I can't help you with details....sorry).

If your tier 2, don't worry about it too much, your tier 3 pilot trainer is at the abandoned base too, so you'll be spending a lot of time there. once you get that far, you should have enough xp and dog fighting experience to complete it.

I did this mission yesterday myself and it wasdifficult because after doing the first 3 parts of the mission, my ship was so badly damaged that It was hard keeping 5+ tie's from making short work of me and the damn space station only repairs 75% of your damage and will only do it once (I believe once after each mission). However, what I did was go and get enough xp (killing lambda shuttles for over 3k xp each)to get the equipment B box so I could get level 4 and 5 ship parts. Once I got that, I shopped around for about a hour and found some great level 5 engines, weapons and shields.....once I got those, the mission wasn't hard at all.

anyway, I found that the better engines and shields are the biggest difference maker....I could actually turn and stay behind my target instead of it zipping past me everytime I turned to shoot it.

Just in case the above is not enough for you, here's what I did.

completed the first mission with no problem....failed the second mission only because I got caught up in a dog fight with some tier 4's that weren't part of the mission and I couldn't outrun them...so the freighter got blown up......next Iregrouped, repaired my ship and head kamakaze straight to the decimator totally ignoring the tie's that were protecting it....The decimator is the biggest enemy because of the turrets, plus it seemed to do more damage and was more accurate than the tie fighters were......finally I got to the last mission and there were so many ties that the only way I could finish this part was to fight it out as long as possible and then hyperspace away to the hyperspace point that's 6k away from the dantooine space station and should be about 7 or 8k away from the frieghters......the time it took me to get back to the station and then to the freighters was enought to recharge my shields and get my ship repaired 75%.....after that, the rest was easy. During the last fight, I had to IFF spoof once, divert all my ships weapons power to the sheilds once and use the hyperspace trick to jump to the same system (don't jump to another system or you fail the mission).

For shortcuts to hyperspace use one of the following and make a macro or alias.

(Dantooines Wrath) /hyperspace space_dantooine_0

(Asair's Ribbon) /hyperspace space_dantooine_1

I can't remember which one of these puts you cloeset to the space station....I beleive it's Asair's Ribbon but not sure......

Nextthing isa strategy that I find helpful when I'm outnumbered by faster powerful enemies and that is to disable the ships instead of blow them up. so if you have 7 ships attacking you, target the slowest ones first, target the engines and disable them, move on to the next ship. I usually go for the ships with no shields first (your basic tie fighter) because it's easier to hit system components and disable them faster than eating through shields first. After you've disable 3 or 4 of them, you can just kill the remaining ones and when your finished with them, kill the disabled ones. I do this to limit the amount of damage I take.....if ships are disabled then they can't shoot you.....some might say why not just blow them up....well, because depending on the weapons you have, with the time it sometimes takes toblow them up, itcanget agroup of NPC enemies behind you while your trying to take one out...then you have little or no shields and the computer is notorious for focusing on unshielded parts of your ship...or so it seems.

Now the reason you want to target the engines to disable a ship instead of the reactor is because each percentageof integrity, hitpoints, health (whatever you want to call it)that the engines lose, the slower the ship moves and more importantly the slower it turns making it a easier target. Targeting the reactor can disable the ship too but until the reactor is totally gone, the ship will continue moving at top speed and can make it harder to catch especially if what your chasing is a tier 4 or 5.....anyway at tier 2, all enemy ships are typically faster and turn sharper than you.

At first this strategy can be difficult to do because with the recent patch, the A.I. of the ships will cause the enemy your attacking to fly in circles while it's buddies fly away from you, turn around and come up behind you blasters wide open.....this is a problem becuase the ships fly in formation and you can have 3 or more ships circling around and shooting you from behind.....guess what happens to your shields then

So with the new A.I., I've come up with a new dogfighting strategy. This is mostly an evasive maneuver first and still get you a few pot shots in while taking minimal damage. It only takes a few seconds to do........You have to keep an eye on the radar. While your chasing a ship to disable (or destroy it), on the radar the red dots will all be giving you certain indications on what those ships are doing.

A big red dot means the enemy ship is very close to your ship (not much of a threat because even if it's shooting at you, it will fly by you soon enough and will likely only get one shot in and probably miss)

a small red dot means the enemy ship is very far away from your ship and is just about ready to turn and come at you.

A blinking red dot means the enemy is either firing at you or moments away from firing at you once it gets in firing range....mostly it means they are on your six (behind you).

Now my strategy is that I will keep chasing and shooting my targeted ship and keep checking my radar....when I see a small red dot, I break off my attack on the targeted ship and immediately turn and face the small red dot (or sometimes a bunch of small red dots if the enemy'sflying in formation).......at this point I almost joust with itbut Ithrottledowninstead (come to either a dead stop or less than 100 speed). The enemy ship will turn and start to come at you.....but the good thing about the new A.I. is that once the enemy takes a direct hit, they will evade left or right and won't shoot at you if your timing is right (you have to shoot before the green targeting cursor shows up or you'll likely take some fire yourself before they evade). After I deter that ship, I repeat the process on the next small red dot on my radar.....I do this until I have broken up all the formations and/or until I have no ships on my six (no small red dots on the radar)....then I go back to the ship I was chasing from the start and kill it (it usuallystays close...if not justtarget the closest enemy and cycle until you findthe ship with the lowesthealth).

During the whole process, you should throw in a few other maneuvers of your own just to break the NPC's flight pattern....once they get in a particular pattern they will stay that way as long as you stay with your flight pattern....so if your chasing a ship (which will eventually start going in circles....it's trying to get behind you while your trying to get behind it) then the other ships will get behind you, slow down and shoot from long range and because your going in circles, they don't have to turn much to begin shooting at you again. Basically you want to limit how often you fly in circles chasing a target.....sometimes instead of turning in the direction of the blue arrow....turn in the opposite directions and you can acquire your target faster sometimes....the more important thing with this though is that it will break the NPC ships pattern and it will take them a couple of turns to catch up to your new flight path because they were locked onto your old one....

Last bit of advice, never allow the enemy to surround you....this is the worst position you can be in because you'll always take a shot in the rear and your shields will die quickbecause someone is always behind you and in front no matter which way you turn.....you'll know when your surrounded when there's red dots on all sides of your radar...try to keep at least one side of your radar clear of read dots....this will be the area you want to have your weakest shield facing to give it time to recharge when it gets low.....so if there's no enemies on your right and your front sheilds are about gone......turn and face the area where there's no enemies....vice versa for the rear shields.

Try to keep all enemies as close as possible...the closer they are, the less shots they can get on you before they fly by.....your shields will last longer (this is especially important in chained missions like the one this thread is about....the missions that with powerful enemies that go from mission 1 to mission 2 to mission 3 and so on with no break)

Hope everyone who reads this can find something in it to help them.

I just realized today that the only way you can get your 3rd tier missions from the dantooine abandoned base is if your a part of the vortex squadron.....this means you have to had started your rebel missions on naboo, moenia and got your first tier missions from the protocol droid near the starport.

If you started your first tier rebel missions on corellia or tattooine, then you will be a part of 1 of 2 other squadrons for which I don't have the name for off hand.....this means that once you finish the missions from the first npc at the abondoned base on dantooine, he will send you to another planet and you won't be able to take missions from the other npc in the same room....so with the information In the post above, you may not advance enough for you to be able to complete the missions which allow you to land directly at the base.....since I had to complete my second tier and I'm in the vortex squadron, I had to run about 12 missions from the base...so it was beneficial for me to be able to land at the base.

So if you can't complete the space mission to get access to land at the base with only tier 1 or tier 2 piloting skills, then it's pretty much not important for you to do so after you've completed tier 2 since you'll be finishing your tire 3 missions on another planet.

Exactly, I too am in Vortex squadron. I do have the equipment box from tier 2, so I am going to give my a ship an upgrade before I try the mission again (still using a fair amount of low level parts).
