fist, forgive me if this is posted somewhere else, I tried to find it, but my time is limited, and I'm not very good at useing the boards yet
I need help to understand EXACTLY how droids work with the space part of the game
I understand that, as a rebel piolet, my droid will enable me to transfer power between my front and back shields, and I know from other space sims that this will be very valuable once tough fights start happening for me, especially in pvp, which I'm looking forward to. A piolet who can transfer all his power to his back shield while running away will live where another may die.
Anyway, whether you agree with that last statement or not, please help with these few questions
I am a Rebel Piolet
1. What kind of Droid should I buy?
2. Is this type of Droid easily available?
3. How do I get the thing into the droid that enables me to use it with my ship?
4. How do I get the droid into my ship
5. How do I get the programs for shield power transfer into my droid?
6. How do I use the programs once I have them in place.
Please only answer if you actually know the answer, please don't answer with " well, you prolly......."
Please be very simple with your answer, spelling it out for me if possible, I've played this game a long time ago, and I'm back mostly for the Jump to Lightspeed action, which I'm absolutely loving so far. I'm just a little worried about the droid thing? I'm afraid it will be hard to find a droid, hard to install it, or hard to program it.
I need help from someone who has done these things
Thank you very much in advance for your help

1. What kind of Droid should I buy?
One that corresponds to your pilot certification (Tier)
2. Is this type of Droid easily available?
Yes, visit your local droid engineer and some starship vendors now carry them as well for conveinence
3. How do I get the thing into the droid that enables me to use it with my ship?
It is called a "droid interface" and you loot them. This is how the droid communicates with your ship. The commands that you will be using are stored in the droid using unprogrammed chips (which can also be obtained from DEs)
4. How do I get the droid into my ship
Under the last option in the "manage" screen of the Starship Terminal
5. How do I get the programs for shield power transfer into my droid?
If you are a rebel you can teach your droid each command as you become certified. If you are Neutral or Imperial you will have to buy or trade for pre-programmed chips. Neutrals and Imps also have commands that they know and can teach....you would do well to obtain commands from each of the three factions.
6. How do I use the programs once I have them in place.
Use control A under the tab marked "astromech" you will find the commands that are available to you based on what you put in the droid and what you are certified for.

**Please note that the term droid is used interchagebly with flight computer....which one you use is dependant on what ship you are flying. I forget with ships take actual droids but I believe there are only a few rebel craft that do.....most others use the flight computer
Hope this helps

I'll answer these to the best of my ability. I'm an Imperial pilot, but things are similar.
1) You should buy whatever droid you're certified for at your level. For example, as a 4333 Imperial Pilot, I am certified for a level 4 flight computer (droid in your case). You cannot use droids you are not certified for.
2) Yes, if you have good droid engineer vendors on your server.
3) I'm not sure I really understand the question, but your droid engineer should have equipped your droid with the appropriate equipment to accept the command chips.
4) You get the droid into your ship via the "Manage" button at any starship terminal. You must have a droid interface loaded into your ship, and then you load your droid.
5) You can either program the droid yourself, or you can buy pre-burnt chips. Buying pre-burnt chips allows you to purchase programs that you are not certified for, and also programs that are not even your faction. For example in my flight computer, I have engine overload 3, weapon overload 3 (both Imperial commands) and reactor overload 3 (a Privateer command).
6) Once the programs are in place, and you have loaded the droid into your ship, you can access them by pressing cntrl-a and choosing the "Astromech" tab. All loaded programs will display here. You can drag and drop them onto a toolbar, or you can learn the /droid command that activates them.
For further information, try the JTL Droid FAQ. The information on how to program has changed a bit. You no longer need to drag and drop into your datapad, but directly place the programmed chip into your droid.
Hope this helps. Oh, and welcome to JtL

thank you both for your reply
One question
You both say I should buy " what ever kind of droid that corresponds to my level"
How can I figure out what kind of droid "corresponds " to my level
I'm afraid of buying the wrong thing

with droids I believe that it is the "R#" meaning an R1 for Tier 1, an R2 for Tier 2....
for flight computers it is the version....use control s and consult the pilot skill tree branch on the far right for droids. That will tell the certification levels...
