Sorry if this has been answered, but the search function says too many are in progress...
When trying to install components into my ship, I get what looks like an Error message. The line that appears in the sysmessage area is:
player_utility:cannot_manipulate
And I can't load the component. In fact, the only components that seem to be able to be unload/load are the ones currently installed, I don't seem to be able to load or unload any components I've looted.
Any advice would be appreciated

This happened to me earlier as well, I am not sure if maybe it is a case of not having it in your inventory anymore and it just sort of stays available. I say this as I sold all my loot except what I had put on my ship but I still have a certain type available (not prototype) that gives me that error message.
Not sure what exactly it is though I'm afraid.

I had that message pop up when trying to install a better shield in the ship. Wonder why...
Well sold that shield for 9000 instead, thats how I solved it haha

OK I figured out the problem...and it's a doozy.
IF you have any parts stored on your veteran reward yacht, they count as being in your "visible" inventory when managing the ship you want to upgrade. BUT...the UI that deals with upgrades apparently can't handle the items stored on the yacht, so you get the [player_utility]:cannot_manipulate error.
That's wierd enough, but the really frustrating part is this: If you have *any* ship components stored in (dropped on the floor of) your veteran reward yacht...then you cannot upgrade any components at all. Period. You have to clean out your yacht first (Move the parts off it to a house, your safety deposit box, etc.) and then you can make component changes.
Odd , but it worked.

Parts in your loot box on a mulitiplayer ship will do the exact same thing.
