im not sure if this has been mentioned before, butwhat ifsmugglers willbe able to slice engines, weapons, shields, warheads, hull parts, and other ship components?
for example, a shipwright could take his crafted basecomponents to a smuggler, get them sliced, and then craft a starship. a normal person could take upgrade components to smugglers for slices.
the stats increased for the parts could be somewhat like this:
lasers get damage or recharge rate
shields get strength or recharge rate
hull gets overall strength and uh...something..else
engines get speed or slower decay rate
warhead launchers get increased ammo capacityor slower decay rate
i think this would further increase the uniqueness of the ships, and bring more business to the smugglers.

i am not a smuggler but it was profession i wanted to try first when i first started playing SWG when it launched in june 2003. But as i played swg, i learned that smuggler wasnt all that great and lost interest in it before i mastered the smuggling profession and moved onto other things. if smugglers are allowed to modify ships in some way i think ill go back and be a smuggler.
there isnt anything yet in the smuggler tree, maybe on test center in the future there will be ship slicing in there. i just wondered if only master smugglers can slice ship components or will it be divided up in the lower slicing trees?

Yeah id like to see some of your ideas, I dont know about how large of an increase id like to see though. I think letting a smugler make minor improvements to 1 or more components would help the smuggler class and also give some benifits tot he ships. The only thing I would be concerned about if the slice effects were to great that it would greatly effect the balance between same classed ships (ie, the way Buffs have and Mod stacking have in the ground game)remember the path of the dark side is a slipery path
.
As for another Option for your hull: Hull integrety or Hull lightening.

But, due to balance issues, the DEvs stuck with reverse-engineering, which went to shipwright.....
I wish we could make "special modifications" to our own ships, though....

i dont wanna be a slice monkey to other people who give me crap for bad stats.. however, i like the idea of modifying my OWN ship...

Yes, and more so, I want to modify my own ship for the purpose of smuggling.

I'll chime in with the others. I do not want to slice ship components for others. It's already bad enough that people feel they're entitled to weapon and armor modifications. I don't want them to feel they're entitled or NEED ship modifications.

Why cant i do this, I was so disappointed that we smugglers cant do this, its seems to be a logical extension of what and how slicing works?

*cough*
I want to smuggle, not tinker with weapons, armor and starship components. I've been an engineer in RL for three decades...no more engineering for me, I want to SMUGGLE damn it.
