Thread: help with space mining

i have a cargo hold and a mining laser, both are equiped to my ship. i go to an astroid, and this is where im stuck, im just not sure how to mine it. i shoot it and nothing, i fly around it and nothing, i crash into it and nothing. could someone help?

shoot it a lot with the mining laser, and chunks should float off of it.
then, shoot those chunks, and it should break into small chunks.
then, shoot those smaller chunks, and things should appear in your cargo hold.

Also make sure it is one of the few asteroids that can be mined. For example most of the rocks in the asteroid belt in Tattoine space cannot be mined. Check out the POI tab and it will give you waypoints to all minable asteroids and then follow the advice of the above poster.

i had the same problem, and here is the solution.
Weapon Overcharge droid programs.
Your basic mining laser isnt powerful enough. overcharge it with the astromech skill "Weapon overcharge 3" at least, and chunks fly off every 3 seconds!

I found if you are too close to the asteroid when you are firing your mining laser it can make it hard to see the chunks fly off. I learned to stay as far away as possible and still have my laser be effective.

I always stay at a minimum of at least 500m away from the asteroid :0
