Thread: New life for JTL?
i would live a persistant battle to be a part of, i also think that certain zones should have heavy factional control instead of just the feeble spawn points we have now. for instance, whyaren't endor and dathomir planets supposedly under empirial embargo, loaded with insane amounts of imperial ordinance? i think it would be fun as hell to be a rebel and actually assault a real imperial stronghold, even if it meant certain death.
but i digress. it took a really long time for gorath to become even moderately acceptable for PVP, people really had to get the world out and constantly communicate that people were in deep space and were looking for a fight. you might want to follow starsider's advice and try to get some sort of master/non master weekly "PVP time" set up to encourage people who may not know how much fun PVP is (due to detractors, ignorance or just plain apprehension about PVP) into it.
other than that, yeah there's not much to do past master. pimp your ride... really that's about it.
I agree on the persistant battle part, here's how I think it should work:
There are random fighters, gunboats, corvettes, etc flying around the system like there are now. Every two hours or so though each base spawns an attack force, ie. it spawns several squadrons of gunboats and smaller cap ships, as well as plenty of fighter escorts, and it then moves towards the enemy base, which has(with the Imp and Rebel forces alternating when they spawn so that they don't meet halfway, ie. hour one the Imperial forces spawn and attack, hour two the Rebel forces spawn and attack, hour three it's the Imp forces again, and continue on the same pattern, note though that when the one faction spawns an "attacking" force the other faction is spawning a defensive force.).
The NPC forces won't be enough to take out the base or do significant damage, but this does two things:
1. Creates a conflict, a real battle that has a centralized place where it is occuring (at one of the bases, depending which side is attacking and which is defending). Right now there's some interesting battles going on in DS, namely squads of TIE's against a Corvette, but they're too small and too few and far between.
2. Players can join these fleets when they go to attack, or can join the defending fleet and fend off the NPC fleet and any players with them.
3. You don't need the NPC fleet in order to attack the other factions base, so if you have a strong enough group of pilots to get through the defensive force, you can go and try to destroy the base. This also leads to a cool scenario (in my opinion) where you can have reinforcements incoming, ie. if you attack with your group of players and are being beaten down by the defending force, if you can hold out long enough you'll get the support of the NPC fleet.
The bases would need to change too, becasue right now the ISD and Freedom Station are sad sad sad. No skill involved in taking them out, no challange, it's not interesting at all. Not to mention they're bugged to hell.
This is just a basic idea that I came up with right here, but it's better then the current system I think. Deep Space should be a unique space GCW option, unlike any of the other sectors (which should have their own, better GCW system), but DS is where you go for fun, quick action, but it doesn't really have an effect on the actual Galactic Civil War in space: it can be roleplayed as simply a random battle out in a deep space sector in which the Rebels and Imperials come across each other by chance and try to blow each other up.
the current system for deep space is an odd duck. if you actually go up there and look how everything works up there it just gets more and more confusing. what's the purpose of the zone?
ships spawn off the base and move in different directions
I think originally the idea was that the corvettes were supplying the station, and Imperials were supposed to stop that. Players on both sides would try to take the other's base.
Of course:
- Freedom station IS STILL BUGGED AND CANNOT BE ATTACKED!
- There's no real incentive to defend your base, since it respawns a few minutes later anyhow.
The flood of NPCs are there to bring life to the zone.

That sounds like a pretty good idea as well. Pretty much anything involving some kind of meaningful change of control of territory or bases based on player interaction with the zone would be a major improvement over what it is now.
So, here's just a few Make Your Own Content suggestions:
- Drop your master and do another squad. Everyone's said it before, you've all thought of it, just had to get it out of the way
- Help other pilots. I find this to be fun, I get to do all the missions for all the other squads, without the pressures of grinding, and I get to do it Ace level equipment (sometimes its just fun to efforlessly blow up lots of ships - yes, I know, not all the time, but it is on occasion)
- If you know any other pilots, organize a PvP battle. It can be a challange to find enough other people, but I think it'd be fun to have, say, one Y-8 on each side, with fighter escorts, and try to take each other out.
- Role play. Sure it's just a static spawn, but there's plenty of scope for the imagination in it. Pretend it's a mission.
- Bank. OK, lets say you have no imagination. Space is a big, free money dispenser. Kill stuff, get money. And it's a lot easier than on the ground.
I'm still new to JTL, though I've had SWG since the start.
I hope it doesn't get boring to me. I'm still reading around the forums, but I figured there are some space missions that master pilots could only complete, or am I totally off?
I like the whole capture the station idea, it kind of reminds me of star wars battlefront, I think it sounds pretty cool
