Thread: A tank or a tin cup?

I'm curious about something. I have chosen to be a rebel pilot. It seems that until I reach the 3rd skill level I have the choice of 2 ships to fly. The Z-95 and the Y-Wing. If I pick the Z-95 I can't put on any decent weapons or armor due to mass limitations. If I pick the Y-wing I can't really fight a fast onslaught of ships because it's like driving a boat. If this is the case how am I suppose to complete missions that have a lot of tie fighters but a limited time to beat them?

I'm also wondering how I get a flight computer/droid. I've checked on the market and there never seems to be any.

That's part of your problem right there. You need a droid because those programs can really help you out.

1) Go to the bazaar terminal. Look at the top row of buttons. Look for Vendors. Click that.

2) Select what you're looking for in the left-hand column. Click that. Droids and flight computers might be under either misc or ships components. May have their own category but I'm not sure.

3) Lastly select either planet or galaxy. If you're in Coronet it's just as easy to hit "planet" because odds are good there will be a vendor within 2k of the bazaar there.

4) You should see listings of all kinds of droids and computers but you can't buy them from the bazaar because you've selected vendor mode. Instead right-click on the item you want and ask for a waypoint to the vendor. Make sure they're on the same world as you. Then either go into your datapad or right-click on your current waypoints listing to activate "Waypoint to Vendor". This should take you where you want to go. If they're not on the same world as you are head to the vendor's world and then activate the waypoint to vendor.

Go with the Y-Wing, and load it up with the best (should be Cert. 3) components you have or can buy for a reasonable price. A new Engine alone should help out with the poor handling.

Find a DE if you are looking for Astromechs or Flight Computers. The Y-Wings, X-Wing, and Z95 all use an Astromech and not a FC. All other ships (including the A and B Wings) use FCs and not Astromechs.

I'd disagree with you there. A decent-equipped Z-95 (level 2 engine, level 3 shields, level 4 blaster, no armor) is enough to get a pilot through the first Tier 3 mission, even without an astromech. After the first Tier 3 mission, pick up an X-wing, even if you can only use level 5 equipment, and do your next Tier 3 mission and pick up the equipment box. That's how I've done it every time...I hate Y-wings.

Real fighter jockeys don't use Y-wings

But they admit how their laziness makes it harder for other people of their faction to earn FP in Deep Space?

Using the Y-Wing is not only a inexpensive stepping stone to the X, but it is also the first ship available in an pilot faction that gives you the ability to go all out with components without the worry of mass limitation. It is also the lowest tier introduction to a heavy fighter/light bomber with all the pros and cons that class offers.

I understand people that don't like the ship, but I do think that it is an interesting, if not useful or important, step in the Rebel progression from new pilot to Ace.

I beg to differ! You must learn to fly the Y-wing. It's all in throttle control.

As far as tier 3 missions. Well one of your biggest problems is they are not designed to be soloed. You need to find some help. Especially if you are new to the pilot profession. With help tier 3 missions are long but easy.

Yes. Yes they do.

And learning to cope with low mass is more valuable than learning to deal with flying a brick, since the former type of flying is used in more situations than the latter.

It is my opinion that learning the capabilities and qualities of as many types of vessels as possible will do more for a Pilot than focusing strictly on a type of ship. Maybe that's just me.

Hmm, what takes more skill. Looting and buying loot to cope with low mass or flying a brick succesfully?

I'd say flying the brick, but then again I like flying slow and heavy stuff.

Real pilots laugh at fighter jockeys who think their Y-wings are easy pickins too.

I actually find it far easier to to heavy work in a Ywing than an Xwing. Imperial gunboats and the corvette are a complete joke. Sure, I may be more vulnerable in PvP, but it hasnt happened yet

The Xwing is the most forgiving ship in the game, but it's a lot more fun to diversify and learn all aspects of flying.
