Is there anypossibility of this? Any remote chance? Like after you get ace pilot there could be a new tree, Captain or something

I think the first step for capital ships is the mining ship. If it works well, we might have Capital ships someday.

I think it'd be interesting, certainly. The skeleton crew levels of a Star Destroyer are over 1000 people. I suspect most of them sit at stations and monitor power levels when they're not overseeing droid deck scrubbers.

Seriously though, it'd be very tough pulling this off with sectors being the size they are now. That SD in Deep Space is friggin' huge. Maybe some kind of compromise ship. Something heavy and larger than the POB vessels we have now but with fixed, long range, gun emplacements on each side for firing broadsides. Based on my readings that's largely how capital ship battles go. Fixed firing arcs which force some very clumsy maneuvering. Then you've got middle sized vessels with various functions like frigates (the poor man's capitol ship - kinda like a WWII Destroyer, capable of functioning alone or as cannonfodder for the big vessels) and gunships (loaded up with turrets and light cannons for taking out fighters). In WWII you had some serious tactical decisions to make as the captain of a large capital ship - aim at the other capital shipfiring from afaror fire at the cruisers and destroyers, with their short range torpedos, rapidly closing in?

While there really hasn't been any Star Wars game that does a very good job of simulating fleet actions (Rebellion might come the closest but it's still miles away) there are some WWII naval games which hit the mark pretty well. I'd recommend an oldergame called Complete Carriers at War by SSI along with an old WEG d6 RPG title called The Rebellion Sourcebook. Between the two a dev, or player, will get a strong sense of how ship classes, fighters and bases work.

If they do allow at least middling capital vessels I'd like functioning Tactical Stations. Rather than just decoration I should be able to 'use' them to oversee what's going on and coordinate actions between ships or, even, ground units. One cool element coming in the new Battlefield series of games is the commander mode. Devs should take a long look at this since what SWG's trying to recreate is based on some rather realistic military principles. Getting players organized and acting like soldiers will take good leaders but those good leaders need all the tools they can get to help keep things straight.

Good point, the mining ship is huge compared to all other ships, big enough for small size capital ships so it is possible to do ships that size. I guess it all depends on if the people at SOE want to do it. I plan on using the mining ship as a capital ship.
