Thread: What if the devs gave us player stations...

Tatooine (ground) has been changed from what should be a barren wasteland into a thriving metropolis by hundreds upon hundreds of player houses, I don't want to see the same thing in space. That being said, I would be all for a Space Station here and there that you can land in, walk around, go to a cantina or whatever and watch the stars go by or stations with quests on them and stuff like that.
I'll agree with that. If they just make some of the space stations landable, that would be enough for me. Space is supposed to be empty. I don't want to have to dodge space stations to run my missions, it's bad enough we have to do that on the ground.

It would be really cool if the devs gave us player controlled stations. What would be some good ideas for features etc. ?
Player controlled stations would increase lag, clutter space, and be an unending source of "Drama" threads all over the boards.
On the otherhand... if the current stations were able to actually be boarded it would rule! So lets say you dock with the space station at Talus. You load into the lobby. Inside maybe we could have a cantinna, a few bazaar terminals, a bank, med center, cloning center, all the comforts a regular city would give you.
Now this would take more coding but maybe in the future we could see the ability to rent an instanced apartment or storage space. Maybe even give merchants the ability to setup a small counter that could be used as a shop. Thats some major forward thinking compared to what we have now.. but why not?
Multiple player owned stations would just fill the skies with garbage (much like player cities are now) on the otherhand giving us the ability to use services that are normally found in NPC cities would be a welcome sight in dockable Space Stations.

Perhaps not /all/ the amenities of a large city. A cantina (sometimes), medical center (of some effectiveness; not all stations would likely be equipped with excellent facilities), some dealers of some kind, repair facilities (such that you'd have to land to repair your ship, not just talk to the station. Also would be nice to see the respawn point moved into the station, instead of outside it... I suppose this would take the place of cloning facilities in space).
Borrowing from games like Freelancer and Privateer, what about trading commodities? I know, I know... this risks detracting from the player economy, but I wouldn't mind being able to pick up a few hundred (thousand?) credits running freight between stations (or for that matter, planets). Specifically, I'm thinking that, much like we have chassis vendors and junk dealers on theground now, stations would be willing to buy resources (or othercommodities)at a nominal price (below player market, I'd hope), paying less for those resrouces found nearby, and more for those found farther away. But I'm off on a tangent now... this isn't a big thing, really, but it is one that I'd like to see, if only to fill out the game a little.

No I totally agree. Earth and Beyond had made good use of stations. Not all things were at all stations and you could get missions from NPC's at the stations. Probably very much like freelancer. I personally feel myself moving more and more to the "Spacegame" vs the groundgame. Why not advance the space game a bit more. Stations need to serve a purpose, I think most JTL players are leaning that way.
And hopefully the devs would develop a way to let other players into our instanced(Portalized Object really) appts so that I could just put my vendor up there as well. When someone wants to find it they just need the appt number or something like that. (Assuming players make the apt public.
Machoeuphonium wrote:Now what are the chances that the devs thought of this of by looking here would consider upgrading the current statons?
0. Absolute zero. They know we want this. They want this. This has been in planning for months. This isn't a sudden "Hey, that sounds cool" idea.
