Have you thought about that?

When you bring some friend in a Multiplayer Ship, it's passing throug a groupe, so now, bye bye big event with 20 peole in my Sorosub, cause groups can count only 8 characters Max...

Will there be some change on how to invite people in a multiplayer ship or will we see the end of big social event in multiplayers ships?

The reduction from 20 people per group to 8 is unneeded. They need ot put it back to 20 for FUN-sake

Best guess ? They haven't even given how it will effect thinks like that more then a passing thought, so only likely to get a change to how we invite people to multiplayer ships (if we ever get a change) sometime after the CU has arrived and with the amount of patching and fixing the CU will probably need after getting to live I'd say a long sometime.

Since when did they say this change was permanent?

I'm still betting its a CU cap to easily normalize the experience code, and will not be imposed on Live. There's too many things it screws up, like Entertainment, and Space.

If anything, they should double the group size. BTW, use teamspeak to minimize confusion and maximize efficiency.

I'm guessing the group size was reduced to 8 to prevent a ton of high-level guys from grouping together and becoming effectively invincible, or at least tougher than it's intended for them to be. Since the damage you take and, I believe, deal is highly related to the overall level of your group, maintaining them at a max of 20 could result in some awfully high levels.

Of course, this would have a highly deleterious effect on JTL.

POB ships will only be able to get 8 people at a time in them, which makes claims of the mining ship being able to hold 20 as somewhat outdated. Then you've got the effects on large-scale space PVP, which would become about ten times as chaotic as it is now.

Granted, it's still in testing and anything can change, but if group size was reduced as a result of the new level-based system, I'd doubt whether we'll see a return to 20-person groups.

TCEP3 Combat Upgrade - Version 0.119696 - April 13, 2005:

Ships
  • For ships like the yt-1300, you can now invite up to 30 people in the same room to launch into space with you. Even if they are not in the same group. To enter a station/turret/pilot, you will need to be in the same group as the ships owner. There is also a new command "/kickfromship" that the owner of the ship can use to eject someone from their ship.

I saw on a stratics chat log that the group size is now going to indeed be 8 ppl. However, the invite rules for MP ships are changing. You'll be inviting ppl based proxmity to the starship terminal, they dont have to be grouped, just near the terminal.

Good.

Of course, that gives me zero hope of seeing larger group sizes. Space PVP's about to become an incredible pain.

Yeah. Maybe we can talk them into giving us 20 person groups in space that disband you as soon as you land.

20 people in one group in space is an extreme pain to try to coordinate. I understand it might be convenient in some cases, but without additional tools (like TeamSpeak, et al) it can be very hard to control a group of that size and make it efficient as a fighting force. I've found the most efficient groups tend to hover around 4 to 6 members, while 8 can be fun when up against a large objective (like a Corvette convoy). It seems, to me at least, that three groups of 6 to 8 with an overall Commander would be a better system than one group of 20. This opinion does not mean I *want* the max group size lowered, as unless there is a *space-based* reason to do so then I do not think it should happen. I think that good arguements *for* a 20 person limit are hard to come up with, though, given the up and coming ability to have up to 30 people in a POB ship.

It's actually essential for keeping larger flight groups together because of the group directional arrows. Also combined with TS it is very helpful. Not everyone always has TS and you can have a person sitting on the ground in your space TS relaying the commands. It's actually easier than having everyone in your TS for some things. A traditional squadron is 12 ships and we can't even get that together. They should toss the level system. This isn't EQ.
