Since its consensual PvP, its logical that you could fight TIE on TIE. You can do that on the ground, so why not in space?

If you were doing a "duel" in space, then yeah, you probably could. However, on all of the games like X-Wing Alliance and such, you can turn friendly fire on and off. I'd assume friendly fire would be off, so you can only shoot non-Imperial stuff. It'd hit them, but do no damage. Something like that.

The common perception is this (oh, and you CANNOT run into each other. That is false information. You pass through each other):
Friendly fire will be treated as fire that will either pass through you or will hit you and cause no damage.

That's my thinking as well. I believe they'll have friendly fire off, otherwise in a group fire fight, the accidental damage tofriendly ships would be insane.

I'm thinking it would hit, but not cause any damage. If it passed through, you could use multiple friendly units (or just one) infront of you to absorb enemy fire, thus creating a player-shield. Bet not many poeple ever think of that, do they?
. Ofcoarse it would only work if the 2 people (one as shield) and 1 person on other side were running directly into eachother.

I'm wondering whether your fighter will get destroyed. I mean, they're gonna cost a lot...they'll have to. What happens when you're shot out in a dogfight? Do you have to buy a new fighter, or does it get "cloned", too? If it does get destroyed, people aren't gonna PvP...it'll be too expensive.

It goes back to your data pad and must be repaired before you can head back into space. Only way to destroy a ship is by destroying it on your datapad.
