Thread: Need hints for 4th mission Imperial tier 3

The fourth encounter of the 4th mission of tier 3 for the Imperial side is to destroy a gunboat and it's escort of X-wings. The x-wings are easy to destroy and I can usually do so in less then a minute while my bomber strikedistracts the gunboat. However when I try to hit the gunboat it has an insane rate of fire that eats through my shields, hull and components of my tie interceptor before I can pull back out of my straffing run.

Could anyone that has completed this mission offer me any hints as to how you can take down a gunboat? I considered loading a tie bomber with space bombs but with the speed of that thing I would almost litterally have to be able to pull it off in one run because I don't think I would be able to pull out.

Try to get a TIE Bomber (or a friend who fly one) and a friend who cover you for the fighters, also you have to be careful with bomber strike, if a bomber strike element destroys an enemy escort the mission will fail, because that kill wont register on the mission.

We finished (couple of times now for everybody in the squad) those tier3 missions without a problem with a strongly armed TIE Bomber and 2-3 escort fighters.

I'm on the same mission. The tier 4 nova is pretty easy to take down as long as you distract it with the tie bomber. Unfortunately if that bomber strike fails you are SOL as you can't stand up to his attacks long enough to get him. I discovered this last night. I'd done the mission a few times by using bomber strike on the nova, After the bomberstrike gets his attention I swing in, attack and destroy with ease. (Disabled both his turrets then finished him off) He ignored me until I started shooting. But when the bomberstrike failed his turrets took me down like always. Hope they fix turrets soon, they are very annoying.

The 4th part seems to require another person at least. The gunboat gets distracted by the tie bomber same as before, I can even take out his escort fighters before attacking the gunboat. But once I start attacking the gunboat I drop his shields to about 60% and I die. I just don't have enough firepower to do it on my own. If I used a tie Bomber I can understand why it'd help, but I don't want to use it. Luckily there is a point after you kill the T4 Nova that you can land (I think) so I can get most of the mnission done then go seek help for the last 2 parts.

It's dissapoint that taking out bigger stronger enemies has nothing to do with your pilot abilities, just what loot you have and how much dmg you can throw out.

It can be done solo if you're careful and use a Tie Bomber. The first phases of this mission should be cake, it's the last one (gunboat/X-Wings) that's a challenge.

Last night I was INCHES from finishing it solo before they finally got me. Gunboat had no shield, no armor, and 2 of 4 weapon turrets were gone. Disabled on number 3 in the countdown for an in-system hyperspace (DOHP). I'm 100% positive I'll successfully complete it solo tonight.

Tie bomber, 1800-point shields front-back, 1900-point armor, two Advanced blasters (weapon group 1), two Mark III Proton launchers (weapon group 2). Concentrate all firepower on the gunboat, targeting Weapon 0. Once you get through shields and armor, you'll start killing the guns. As one gun dies, targeting will immediately cycle to the next gun. There are 4 guns total. Once they're gone, the gunboat is defenseless and can be killed at your leisure. The X-Wings.... well, they're just X-Wings. You can pretty safely ignore them for the amount of time it takes you to disarm the gunboat. If you get an opportunity on one (it passes you and presents it's 6 to you), take it. They go down FAST to two Advanced blasters.

When you get into trouble (shields go down), start an in-sectorhyperspace sequence to the dropoff closest to the space station. By the time your hyperspace engages, your armor will be low (that's what killed me last night, I got overconfident and started hyperspace too late). Repair your armor and hyperspace back to the point nearest the targets. By the time you get there, your shields will be charged and you'll be good to go.

Just be patient and don't be afraid to hyperspace away (IN SYSTEM) when your shields go down. You should be able to do it this way.

Oh, and don't use an Interceptor in this mission. You likely won't even be able to get past the Tier 4 Nova in one of the earlier phases unless you have Bomber Strike (which I don't, dohp!).

Oh! I never tried to make a jump in system. Um... a thought just occured to me that I might try tonight: if you jump a lot then doubtless the transport can stay out there long. I just had the crazy idea of trying to lure it towards the Imperial base. I wonder if the npcs there (I sure hope there are some) would attack it?

Don't know about that, but that's a LONG ways to lure the ship.

Just try it using the in-system hyperspacing. As long as you stay in-system, the mission won't fail when you jump. Just don't wait too long to begin the hyperspace process like I did last night. It might take some trial and error, but I found that if I started as soon as my shields were gone, but the time I'd actually jump I still had a little bit of armor left. Just remember to ALWAYS target the gunboat's weapons. Once those are gone, it should be easy.

Hmmm, I got to this point the other night, started a bomber strike against, gun boat, killed all the escorts then concentrated on the gunboat. After 1 pass I'd eaten a good part of his shields up but my shields were gone so I started to pull away from him to let them recharge and he hyperspaced out. I was only about 2k in front of him at the time. I don't see how your plan of Hyperspacing around in system can work cause he leaves after a short time.

I think the mission just boils down to brute force. Individual Tie bomber has it, Tie Interceptor does not. I guess I think I'll just get a bunch of friends to help because I refuse to buy a Tie Bomber. Rebel @$%@%@ get to use ships with 2 billion mass, imperial pilots use skill. Dev's need to come up with better ways to make missions harder besides stronger enemies.

[Edit]

BTW is there a hyperspace command you can use? Or do you have to bring up the menu, select the point and click hyperspace? Seems like doing all that would get you killed if you were attacking a gunboat. If a macro could be made that would be very helpful.

Hmm, he never hyperspaced away for me. Maybe he was within minutes of doing it when I died last night. I'll try again and see what happens, but I ALMOST had him last night.

As for not wanting to use a bomber.... well, then you're gonna need friends. I'd LOVE to use my Interceptor in this mission, but it's just not feasible solo. Not enough damage output, simply put. My damage output in the bomber is about 5 times what my interceptor can do. I don't like driving that ugly tank around, but a good pilot has to know when to use the right tool for the job, eh?

Edit: I know there is a command for hyperspace you can macro, but I do exactly what you describe. I just have a lot of practice and do it quickly. Macro would definitely be better, I should look into that.

I think I'll actuallytake the time to harvest the necessary ressources to make space bombs (ok so I'm not sure of the name but the launcher wights 40k and the bombs are reputed to do 9k damage). With two of those and 2 blasters then maybe I can do this in one pass.
