i think you can do your own RPG if you realy want, but its not always easy.... espacialy if you want to play an Privateer that has a tendency towards the empire and doesnt like the rebellion.
It would be nice if you could chose not to go against a certain faction.
But if you just want to do a bit RPG you can always grab some friends and just launch your ships and explore some of the sectors or just "hunt" some pirates or what ever.

I agree with you, Brakisss. We can always RP by just turning out visual aids, removing our composite and star talking like real SW saga characters. I enjoy doing that... it's just that I can't do it while advancing in my profession (Rebel Pilot).
Since I could RP all my way up to TKM, Carbineer, Medic, BH (so-so), Pistoleer, Fencer... I guessed I could feel like a part of a living world while taking piloting missions. Now I just feel like in XvTf, great simulation but no identification between me and my character. and this is what I feel as Role Play.

As much as I'm enjoying JTL, I don't think there is any scope for that much roleplay at all. For a start, as a privateer working for the smuggler's alliance, you have to work both for Lady Valarian and Jabba the Hutt. This is despite the fact that on ground, killing a Valarian swooper gets you positive Jabba faction and, obviously, negative Valarian faction.
So if you RP your character on the ground as being affiliated with Jabba and want to have nothing to do with Valarian, you will have to break this character role as soon as you start training as a pilot.
Also, (and this wont' be the last time I bring this up) it would be great if there was a little more to JTL than simply shooting stuff. Interplanetary trading, smuggling, mining - they're all options. It would be great to think that, as an artisan on the ground, once I'd bought my very own YT-1300, I could customise it to have a large hold to transport a load of items to somewhere else. But even if I'm a non-combat based RP player, I have to do combat as soon as I get into space. What about all the non-combat cargo pilots and miners?
Anyway, I have lots of thoughts about JTL and will write them up more when I can stop playing the blasted thing!

That is exactly what i meant with "It would be nice if you could chose not to go against a certain faction" because THIS realy destroys some effort to RP a smuggler working for ONE side. Same with having to go against the empire. I think there are lots of smuggler out there that think the empire is good for this galaxie but in space they have to kill loyal TIE-Pilots, thats just not right (but i have to say .... its fun..

I'd like to know if you ever feel like you actually could take your own decissions while leveling up the pilot tree. I mean, you chosse your aligment (Rebel, neutral or Imperial), then you choose a destination/squadron and I think it's then when you end with personal choices.
Since then you can only:
A - Accept the mission.
B - Reject the mission now and take it later.
Nothing you can do to alter your path unless you resign from your squadron/faction and take another squadron/faction.
I know, I know... you have 3 or 4 options when doing Duty Missions (for XPgrinding/looting) but I don't feel I can't really RP in JTL.
What are your thoughts about RP in space? Am I asking for too much when I'm crying for a bit moe "interactive" missions?
Thank you for your time.
