Thread: Change privateer more ships, less dirty criminal scum.

Flame if you want, but this is my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

First, I'm a privateer so this suggestion will affect me. I'd like to see a lot more variety in the ships that are flown. I can see that currently it's tricky to add ships without severely annoying reb and imp players who can (sometimes justifiably) say 'oh, they've got more / better ships than us now, not fair'.

Currently the privateer ships seem to be split across 3 factions - 2 of which are effectively at war (hutts and black suns are not the best of friends). This is a bit odd seeing as it doesn't tie in with the pilot quests.

We got:

Hutt ships - scyk, dunelizard, kimo and krayt. There's not very strong reasoning for having these so widespread.

Black sun ships - I won't bother tying to spell them. As above.

Neutral ships - the yt1300 and Firespray. I'd like to see a lot more here, and these ships should be open to ALL factions, not just privateers.

We do:

Hutt - yep, Hutt pilots should fly hutt ships.

Smuggler's Alliance - I guess this is the black sun, I'm Corsec, so I'm not sure.

RSF - why the hell is the RSF flying criminal group fighters?

CorSec - umm... yes, the security forces of the largest shipyard planet in the Galaxy flies criminal ships... Uhmmm?

I suggest:

1) The privateer pilot should get ship certs as a reward for completing quests from the appropriate trainer, with the first quest being given on joining the quest tree. Obviously if this isn't possible this whole idea is pooched.

2) All pilots can fly 'neutral' ships. The rebs and imperials have as much right to freighters as anyone else. This is actually where a lot of the stuff that privateers want to see will go. Since the ships are available to all, it shouldn't cause too much of a stink, and since the ships are generally in use by everyone, it shouldn't mess up canon too badly, if at all.

3) Reorganise the existing certs. Firespray, YT-1300 should be neutral. There are arguments for the Z-95 being neutral too, it being pretty widespread. Add ships using very similar stats to the appropriate privateer cert trees. Allow trade-in of existing chassis's'ss (what the hell is the plural of chassis?) for privateers that have 'the wrong ship'.

4) Any remaining ships add according to common sense.

5) Add a space slug. Go on, we've seen the art was done. I want revenge for it eating all those probe droids.

Comments and critique welcome, but please be constructive.

Smuggler Alliance run = run for Jabba... hence Hutt!

But i diagree with making YT-1300 Free4All. It´s our MP ship. If we make it Free4All we would loose it. So I would only agree with YT Free4All if we get annother MP in return... like the YT 2000 or 2400.

The idea is that we don't lose it. It stays neutral. The 2400 would be neutral too, but I think MP factional ships would be cool - BlackSun, Hutt etc.

Just so that the privateer professions have more variety.

I think privateers should also be able to flyversions of the Z-95 Headhunter and the Y-Wing, as these are the ships most widely used by non-imperial pilots in the Star Wars Universe.

Anothercommon thing in freelance groups of the Star Wars Universe are so-called 'uglies', which are starfighters that are cobbled together from parts pieces of different fighters (A TIE cockpit with X-Wing S-Foils, for example, or an Y-Wing cockpit with TIE solar panels, etc.), that were salvaged from other fighters.

I would really like to see that.

i definitely agree with you that there should be a bunch more privateer ships made. being an imperial most often, i would like variety of my own but dont need it. the privateers ought to have more variety, they should have more choice then investing in Hutt products.

Sure, I don't understand why CorSec pilots use Hutt ships, look at the describ on the off. site : hutt ships are special modif of standard ship ask by the Hutts (or the Black Sun for BS ships). So why an official organisation like the CorSec or the RSF use criminal ship ?????

And as we speak about ships... where are all the commercials, civilians ship, shuttles etc we saw in older screen shots ?!

I'd like to see the variety, but that variety should be based on which faction you fly for.

For example: RSF should have the Naboo Fighters as their Tier 1 ship. They are a bit older than the Z-95, but could still be viable if maintained. And since the RSF works for the Empire, maybe have a TIE and TIE Bomber in their mix.

CorSec should basically have the same ships as the Rebels, except for the A-Wing and B-Wing should be replaced by something else.

Smugglers Alliance should be in the Hutt/Black Sun ships. Obviously the game can track what 'faction' you work for, because of the way the trainers react to you, and the way targets are in space, so there is no reason why there could be specific certs based on 'faction'. Basically they should have made two more Professions: CorSec pilot and RSF Pilot, but that wouldn't be that hard, just clone the Freelance and change the certs.

I'd have the thought that, from a role playing point of view, neutrals and rebels should be able to be certified in the same ships. After all, the rebels used whatever ships they could get their hands on, be it corellian freighters, alderaanian gunships, mon cal starships, KDY Escort Frigates, Incom, Koensayr or Slayn & Vorpil starfighters or what have you.

The Empire, on the other hand, tended to use Seinar Fleet Systems craft which amount to any TIE variant, the Skipray blastboat, the Lambda class shuttle and so on.

There are a lot of different designs of ships in the SW universe but at the moment, SWG doesn't reflect this. Non-Imp NPCs can fly any non-imp ship be they rebels, pirates, RSF or Corsec and it would have been great if players could too. Missions to get certifications in ships would be good as well.

The issue of balance doesn't really come into it. If you're choosing to fly as an Imp then you know you're restricting yourself to imperial ships - ships which no-one else can fly. Ideally, they'd be easier to produce and cheaper to buy as well to reflect the mass produced nature of the Imperial fleet. So while the rebs and neutrals may end up with having no unique ships (except the A-Wing and B-Wing perhaps - as they were designed by Rebel commanders), they'd end up with a lot more choice and the stars would be filled with a lot more diversity.

I think someone brought this up in Beta, how Corsec shouldn't be flying "criminal" ships. For a while it was talked about simpling calling the Mandal MotorsM3-A Intercepter "Scyk", etc. and completely removing the Hutt and Black Sun designations. Unfortunately, nothing ever really came of that I still think of them that way though. For me they are Mandal Motors and TransGalMeg ships. In fact, I think the only place they are officially listed as "Hutt" or "Black Sun" is the site. I don't remember seeing this ingame anywhere (though I'm tired and could be forgetting).

Rebels and Imps can fly YTs when Privateers can fly their Novas and Decimators. Not before.

And SmugAlliance is initially Valarian, and then Hutt. Not Black-Sun.

Say, there'scertainly good justification for us Privateers to be able to fly Z-95, Y & X-Wing: plenty of the 'neutral' security forces (CorSec, RSF) fly them, and plenty of pirates too! (Nym's, Corsairs, Deathmarked Mercs).

Of course, the issue is that the Rebel pilots don't want to lose their class specialty. Which I totally respect- I am a Rebel spy, after all. ^_~

So how about this: Let Privateers get the certs for those ships, but at higher tiers than the Rebs do! Make them tier 2, 3, and 4 ships. Sure, we might not want a Z-95 at tier 2, but it gives us the option to. A Y-wing at tier 3 wouldn't really be that bad, thinking about it.. and granted tier 4 is a bit late for an X-wing, but hey, we could get it, at least..

Of course, at Master level this makes us a lot like Rebs (minus the A-wing and B-wing, since those were Alliance special-ordered, right?), but I can see some gripes about it at that point...

I dunno, this might work. Whadda you think?
