Can someone please enlighten me as to the usefullness of the Reactor Overload commands and the usefullness of droids at all for that matter. I have some pretty decent droid interfaces but am only running a V2 Flight Computer at the moment because I don't see where they are useful. Anyone help me out?

When you get to the good and fast ships. They have a low mass and a react0r takes up alot of mass.
So if you take a mark 1 reactor(least mass), with about a 12k energy output.
Say you put in everything, And you want a missle launcher .
Well your reactor can only power 12,000.Andwith your missles you need 13,000 power. So, you reactor overload and you get a extra 1,000 energy and can now equip the missles. You wont really notice anything in the noob ships. But as you get higher up in the components you will notice, the big mass and energy requirments of mark 4,5 upgrades.
Get it?
I'm 4/3/3/3 allence pilot and I wish I had reactor over load for my a-wing.

IMHO reactor overload increases recharging your shield (can be mistaken however).

Psssst. If you're a reb pilot, you can get someone like me (a privateer pilot) to program droid chips for you to overload reactors.
Then you can equip them in your droid/fc and use that command.
Same thing with any program that's factional. Just find someone from that faction to program you some chips with abilities you need, and there ya go.
You don't have to be that faction to use the program, just to program the chip.

programmed chips are tradable
best is to get programs from all 3 factions and deck out a halfway decent FC. a V4 FC has 110 free program spaces so you can equip quite a lot even higher tier programs.
Reactor overload (Freelancer) - increases reactor output
Shield adjust (Rebel) - increases your front or back shields max hitpoints and decreases the other.
Shield reinforce (Rebel) - transfers energy from you front to your back shields (and viseversa) - seems to be bugged atm.
Engine Overdrive (Imp) - increases your engine thrust - engine needs more energy then.
Weapon Overdrive (Imp) - increases the weapon damage - weapon needs more energy and capacitor.
there are several other programs like engine and weapon detune that come in handy sometimes.
oh btw, droid programs dont fail.

Once I activate the overload, however, how long will it last?
As long as you don't hit stableize. So pretty much forever,I think.
I'm not a freelance pilot . But for a rebel allence pilot your adjust sheilds will stay as long as you don't Balance them.
My alt will be a freelance pilot soon. So I will be able to tell you for sure or you can test this yourself.
