I am not at all satisfied with the integration of the space game with the ground game. It just seems slapped on and not very well thought out. Of course I have a couple of alternate ideas. I offer these for your consideration and comments. Some of these ideas have been brought up before and some have not.
1) Take the starship terminals out of the starports.Starships are docked at space stations only. To get to a space station you buy a shuttle ticket at a starport or another space station and travel to the space station of your choice. The ticket terminals (atstarports andspace stations)offer an option to buy a ticket to a space station as well as a starport.Having the ships docked at the space station eliminates the problem of having to remember what starport you parked your ship at. The space station can be reached from any starport on the planet.
2) Space stations are living breathing cities in space. They have starship terminals, bazaar terminals, trainers, merchants, a hospital, cantina, etc. You can log out while in a space station and remain there. It is a safe haven. When you want to launch into space you then go to a starship terminal (located in the space station) and launch into space.
3) Missions
The space mission integration really bugs me. The fact that I have to keep returning to the planet just to get a mission (which often requires lots of mindless travelling back and forth) just ruins the fun. The space stations should have space mission terminals for all factions and offer all mission types just like on the ground. That way a player can choose to stay in space full time and just run missions only returning to ground when he/she wants to. If missions must remain handed out by trainers then at least put the trainers in the space stations.
4) Supply ships
A supply ship is a ship that others can dock with to have repairs made and ammo reloaded. These could be player ships or even npc ships called from a nearby space station. If anyone remembers the game Freespace you will know what I am talking about. You stop your ship (make sure you are away from combat of course) and you call in a support ship for repairs and reloading. It takes time but it takes far less time than flying back to a space station and then back to the mission. If supply ships are player ships then players could own them and basically be a ship medic in space just like medics on the ground.Someone in the group calls for support, they fly over and help them.
Anyway those are by big issues. I'd love to get other people's thoughts on these.
Thanks
