Thread: B-Wing info wanted
They are said to be an aquired taste, some sware by them others sware at them.
Most people don't fly the B-Wing because it's too far from the lowest common denominator. It's big, slow, has slushy handling, and the firepower isn't that much greater than what you can put on an Advanced X-Wing.
I use mine frequently anyway, and have learned to fly it pretty effectively. The typical mass of a B-Wing is 242000. Expect to pay 500k or more for the blueprints, and 100k to the chassis dealer to turn it into a deed.
And despite it's mass, turning it into a ship with enough of a firepower advantage over the X-Wing to justify the handling, while retaining the necessary heavy shielding and armor (it gets hit a lot), is not easy.
The reasons B-wings are rare have pretty much been summed up. There's not a lot of demand for them from the pilot community, and they're resource-intensive to build, so there are few of them around.
Though one or two of them working together *do* excel at ripping gunships apart. I know three of my guildmates went to DS the other night--two Advanced X-wings and a B-wing--with the fighter pilots providing escort for the B-wing pilot. As long as the X-wings kept TIEs off the B-wing, it could shred gunboats in seconds.

B-Wings are definitely able to rip gunboats up in short order. I was able to pack mine with an L10 gun and 3 L8s, and still keep the L8 engine, L8 reward shield, and armor on it, with 2 missile launchers.
But one thing I found very helpful, was taking it DeepSpace and engaging entire squadrons of tier 5 TIEs. I've sometimes gotten a couple of nearby squadrons (Oppressors/Bombers, Advanced/Interceptors) to attack me at once. Once you get the hang of handling the slow accelleration and the inertia, you can actually become quite proficient at taking on fighters in a B-Wing. And it's fun to watch tier 5 ships blow up in 2-3 hits ![]()

Mine has 250k mass
Double-check that, 250k is not possible. 240k is average, 245k is exceptional.
Heh, all I need now is to find an engine with good turning.
