I have read the JtL FAQ through, as well as browsing through the forum for some little while without finding the information that I seek, and so I would like to ask if anyone knows:
Can a character have a different faction on the ground and in space? I.E.: If I am an Imperial but wish to fly a Hutt Fighter rather than the TIEs, can I do that?
Any information or references to answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

My current understanding is anyone can pick up freelance. Only ground Rebels can go Rebel in space, though, and only ground Imperials can go Imperial in space. This was changed recently, but I believe this is how the system works at present.

you can be Imperial on the ground but become a Privateer and vice versa with Rebels
however, before they changed it you could be neutral on the ground and become Imperial for pilot and vice versa but they changed it so that you have to be aligned with that faction on the ground first before you take up the prof.
and existing neutral players who were neutral but flying imp, rebel were changed to comply

Ground Factions:
- Civilian (no faction) can only be Privateer now.
- Imperials, can be Privateer and Imperial pilot.
- Rebels can be Privateer and Rebel Pilot.
Space Factions:
- Privateer Pilot can be A civlilian or factional on ground. ( Note that a civillian becoming a imperial or rebel pilot, becomes imperial or rebel on the ground by joining that factions navy.)
- Imperial Pilot can only be imperial on ground.
- Rebel pilot, can only be rebel on ground.

Well seems i have a problem now..just returned to SWG im a ground rebel, but also a RSF privateer..the problem is...as an RSF pilot you have to kill rebels in space...but i don't want to grind all pilot xp again...thats not funny atm. Anyone knows if CSR's can assist in any way ?

Well, you could always try, but I really doubt they'd let you swap skills or anything. Expect to have to climb a different squad again.
Good luck, though.

If you feel you must stick with RSF, don't worry overmuch about your rebel standing. You will be able to kill the ships and it won't harm your rank on the ground. However, RSF are never allowed todamage imperials, under normal cirumstances. You won't be much good asa ground Rebel in space in the RSF, and you won't be able to help any of your rebel friends too much. In this case, I recommend you trick out, a Dunelizard with the best gear you have, drop RSF and join Corsec or Smuggler's Alliance. Do the first 4 mmissions in a Prototype, then take advantage of your overpowered Duney to regrind.
PS- RSF has always been this way, since launch. you don't say how far along you are, but if you really want to express your Rebel-ness in space you need a different squad
