My friend took me up in his 2 seater ship. I basically had a static view, couldn't move it around, couldn't even see the action going on. It was like staring at a wallpaper. It happened no matter what zone we went into. Any clues what could be causing this? He seems to think it's because he doesn't have a weapon installed for the passenger. But why would this cause the view to be static?

Is that it? Any help appreciated.

That seems about right, considering your view changes with where you aim.

A happy chance to run into this thread, I was looking for the answere to this same question. I think you're assumption is right on though because I have no secondary weapon either and my friend had the same problem in the second seat of my ship. Aside from that, I would also like to know what weapon I can put there and how xp and loot work when grouped in a multiperson ship. I'l check the rest of the JTL and Pilot forums but would be nice to have it explained clearly.

XP in a 2-seater or MP ship works by taking the xp that 1 pilot would get for that target, and dividing it among the people on board. Loot in a 2-seater ship goes to the pilot (I beleive not 100% sure). When you land you'll want to split it up. Loot onmultiperson ship goes into the ship's loot container. credit chips also go here.

If you can't move, your friend has't installed the secondry weapon.
