Space combat is fun, but very repetitious. I really think adding instanced ship boarding combat to be the next breakthrough in SWG. Imaging
getting crew together for a mission to disable and capture Imperial/Rebel gunship or transport then selling ship and contents on black
market. Just one example. Think the opening scenes of episode 4 where ST's board ship and there is a firefight on board. But after you
capture the ship, your team mates have to protect you until you can reach friendly starport. This would also allow players to obtain ships
not available via shipwright. That would be a great way to add new ships to game and give players incentive to get back into space. If you
like this idea, please respond and lets get SOE on it!!!

Sounds fun, as long as it's not another player's ship you'd steal things from.
It would be cool to recieve the ship, but instead of getting the ship itself, it should be a temporary schematic that you take to a Shipwright and have the schematic built (if it wasn't like that, Shipwrights would whine).

Something like that should be for PvP too. You disable another player's ship and board it, a fight insues inside. But you shouldn't be able to steal anything or furthur damage the ship on the inside... that would just cause greifing. Nor should you be able to capture the ship and take it as your own, or get a schematic for it (seeing as Shipwrights could most likely build it anyway). It'd be just for fun, and maybe even PvP missions.
And forMaster Smuggler, perhaps they'd get a special space skill that would allow them to "hide" themselves and the crew from the people boarding the ship. But if someone moved or tried to attack the people who boarded, that person's cover would be blown. If the Smuggler did that, everyone's cover would be blown.

Try to find a way to avoid screwing over the crafters of SWG. I go to space because it is the only place I can fight. How about hijacking them in order to steal and permanently learn the schematic? At least shipwrights can stay in the loop.

I think finding an engineering terminal where you can download the ship's schematics would be a good way to go. If the ships had a bit of variety to their stats you could have a RE level of 12 or so to make ones with better mass, chassis, and manuvering modifiers.
In addition to these things though, being able to board and strip the ship for parts could be cool. For each component you remove you may damage it beyond repair as you try to extract it, but on the whole you'd get better stuff than whatever wreckage is left over from blowing something up.
If you want some means to play out the capturing of the ship, allow players to take it to smuggler outposts to fence it, but not keep it. If a player takes it to a station let it play out as the station scans its ID codes and identifies it as A) kill on sight as the previous owner was a 'bad bad' man or B) it was reported stolen and the previous owner/next of kin ordered it to be destroyed before risking the pirate's escape. Since you can't land without talking to a station manager the most you could do is joy ride around and get the attention of the authorities, or sell it to a smuggler npc.

would be awesome for PvE, but im not so sure about PvP, like one poster said, it would screw over crafters because space is the only place they can fight, but there definatley needs to be an option to dock with MP ships and borard em and hang a bit with the crew then you can just lift off again.

Love the responces! I like what a lot of you said. I was thinking as a PvE thing not pvp. As for getting schematics from ship computer...that is
awesome idea. But I think that Shipwright you take schematic too needs a prt from the ship to complete. This way he could only make one and
would keep number of ships of certain types down to those that actually earned it. I am also a poor shipwright, so I believe shipwright should
be involved in this business. As a bonus for shipwright, make these ships require special repair tools that can be crafted by any shipwright
who is master and has repair kit schematics from previously making a special ship for someone. I would also like to see raids where we
could attack and infiltrate a star destroyer or something and steal replacement weapons or parts that are 10x better than anything crafted or
dropped. Also needs to be some kind of reward for players part of boarding party...think on it! My husband might start playing if they do that...he
loved this idea!

I like it. Not because of the taking over ships thing, but because the side effect would give me what I really dreamed of when I thought about the Veteran Reward ship.
I want a space cantina. I want to park my ship up in Tatooine space, or maybe floating over Endor. People could dock with my ship, board up, and get healed up. If I keep Medic, I could patch their wounds, too. Then send them back out to fly some more. It would be great.
Also, I'll not say no to any proposition that makes my getting a Lambda more likely.

I really like this idea. It's another way to link ground fighting and space fighting, and I would love for people to be able to raid a space station, starting out in star ships, but ending in a personal pistol to pistol match off.
