Is there any point in a new player buying SWG and JTL? Is it possible to start afresh as a pilot and build a char, or would it be a waste of time given that other players have over a year of credits in the bank? Thanks for all info!

Yeah there is. Not everyone who's played for over year (myself included) has millions of credits. All depends on how you play the game, how much time you have to make credits (for me, rl keeps me out of game a lot)...etc. Any MMORPG is going to be what you make it, so if the interest is there try it out. Besides, even new players can get credits pretty quickly in the game - so if you're concerned about that aspect of the game, don't be. You'll prob have more credits than I do in your first week of play if that's one of your goals. ![]()
As far as JTL goes, we all know that unless you buy the expansion, you cannot become a pilot. So,we will all be starting fresh in that aspect of the game. Good time to join us. ![]()

If your goal is ONLY to have more credit than anyone else on the server than there is probably no point in joining. If you want to play SWG/JTL and have fun then join because that is very possible. You can have fun without comparing yourself to what someone else is doing.
Actually, coming from UO (I quit after the AoS expansion), I can understand the original poster's concern about joining a game a year into it's release. Some games can be too restrictive with items (no sense in even trying to play the game on one level if you can't afford the uber items - pvp anyone?). Granted I still enjoyed the game without the artifacts and the castle, just as I enjoy SWG without having millions in the bank (I think I have around 300k between my characters at this point).
I do like your point tho, Leana. There simply is no way to "win" in an MMORPG. The best you can hope for is to make good in-game friends and make your own fun along the way.
