It´s called "Item Decay" and is meant to be like this.

At some point when an item hits 0/0 it becomes unuseable. So make sure you allways have spare parts to swap for decayed items.

ok, so it's basically like decay on a weapon or armor on the ground game. but i thought i read somewhere that once you bought a ship you wouldn't need to buy a new one, it could just be repaired?

Forgive me I'm new and couldn't find the answer on the boards. If i repair my ship, maybe the armor, it was originally 250/250. It gets damaged and I repair it, but it is only 225/225 now. Does that mean that component will eventually become useless? And the chassis, when I had to eject once from the ship, I needed to repair the ship, and the chassis lost hit points. Do I have to see a shipwright or something? Thanks.

If your smart and dont get blown out of the sky too much, then you wont have to buy a new ship, at least for a while
