Thread: Small gripe: contrails

You know what I'm talking about...those little lines that come off the wings on your fighter, and off the boosters too when they're activated. Well, they drive me nuts; they just ruin the feeling of being in space for me. When I fly my Nova Courier, which has no contrails, I can proudly admire it gliding through the vacuum. But in my X-Wing...it just looks wierd in space. I can understand why the contrails are there: to show motion. But that's also what the space particles and debris that flies past the ship is for. So why the contrails? I'd be so happy if they were taken out.

Ok, mini-whine over.

I like 'em. Sure, they go against the laws of physics - but then so does every other thing in Star Wars.

I've heard this complaint before, though, and it seems like enough people don't like them that there should at least be an option to turn them off. Or maybe there already is, and I haven't seen it yet because, well, I wouldn't look for it. That'd be like saying, "Hey, can you give me this cake without icing? Yes? OK, good to know. I'd like some icing, please."

I think they are not only to show motion, but also to show the direction of other vessels around and are actually pretty helpful. IndeedI don't see my contrails at all as I always fly in cockpit, but as to other ships around, contrails show their heading and that's quite useful to notice the change in movement before it actually reflected on trajectory of flight.

I agree. Those contrails drive me nuts too.

Someone had a great suggestion above - give us the option to turn them on or off. Everyone is happy then and can fly which ever way they want.

I thought there already was an option to turn the contrails off...did I imagine that? lol

Well, at least I'm not the only one. It's not so much that I dislike them because it doesn't fit the physics of space (in that case I wouldn't even be playing the game) but that it just makes it look more like I'm in an atmosphere, I guess. Kinda hard to explain really, it just doesn't feel right. Would really be cool if there was an option to turn them off.

As someone else said, at least I don't see them when I'm in the cockpit. It's just nice to admire the ship from time to time.

Actually it's the gas jets autocorrecting to keep the ship level during flight of these highly advanced vessels. These small bursts of compressed gas show up brightly against the glow of the engines in the darkness of space. If your sitting still you can see these as you rotate your ship.

That or just a screw up by the Devs.

This an glowy specials in ground combat annoy me alot. My Teras Kasi Artist looks like he is dancing with Red Ribbons. I mean good lord Devs I can tell someone is using a special by the way thier moving just fine without the lightshow. The Jedi specials are also way way overboard. The Meditation one calls down a giant magical beam from the sky an looks so retarded. But anyway yeah pretty much any non-realistic or unnecessary extra animation annoys me. Fortunately I fly in my cockpit all the time.
