Thread: Joystick Aiming problems

Recently, while I am flying my X-wing, the crosshairs seem to move a bit. Like when I am flying on a straight stretch to a waypoint, it just all of the sudden turns like 5 or so degrees to the right. So I have to correct and change it back. Wondering if anyone else has this problem?

It's likely that the potentiometers in your joystick are starting to get old and send electrical spikes. There are joysticks out there that don't use potentiometers. Halls effect sensors are superior in that there are no contacting parts. They're quite accurate as well. (They basically measure magnetic field strength to give a joystick deflection readout.) However, the only joystick out there that comes with Halls effect sensors out of the box is the Saitek X-52. Thrustmaster Cougars can be upgraded to use them. (My personal favorite is the Evenstrain Mod Cougar.) The Saiteks are about $150. A properly modded Cougar is about $800 to $1000.

try this... when you're in game and game and in space, disconnect your JS,and then reconnect it. might have to do this twice. basically it re-calibrates your JS.. I have to do this everytime I go into space, but before you disconnect it and reconnect it twirl the JS a little and let it center it self on its own. hit it to the left right what ever and then let go.

if that doesn't work for you then your JS might be getting old and about to break. hope that's not hte case though.

Could be that your joystick is just getting old. If a friend of yours has a joystick, plug it in and see if the same thing happens.

No, it can't be getting an electrical spike or whatever, the joystick in about 3 old isall. I will try unplugging it, might work

mine did something similar, I unhooked it rebooted and let windows find it, then recalibrated and it never did it again
