Thread: Where's my bloomy bloom?

Ok ever since Publish11 came and i had the addition graphics option; "Bloom", i havn't been able to enable it. The box is just greyed out and non-clickable.

I have scanned over the Tech Support forum and found a few threads with a lot of people having the same problem, and like me want their ship's engines to glow nicely, not look like orange / blue flat manky textures (lol). There have been a few suggestions on how to get the option to turn on and off, and i have tried them.

Firstly update GFX drivers, well i already had the latest Catalyst drivers for my Radeon 9200 (i know its not exactly top of the line, but it should support it...right?) Plus i know people with older graphics cards than me who have their Bloom enabled.

Secondly, make sure the Pixel / Vertex shading option in the Launchpad's "Game Options" is set to something other than 1.4, as aparently 1.4 will keep the Bloom option turned off. So, i set mine to 1.1...and STILL NO LUCK.

So, does anyone have any more ideas or official tips / answers on how to get my Bloom...blooming?!

...Wait a second, wrong game. That was back in SWG. What am I in this new game? Oh nothing special just a generic Elder Jedi.

If I recall correctly, your card must have directx 9 hardware support to enable bloom.

GeForceFX 5600 Ultra 256mb here.. greyed out to me also.. this is a DirectX 9.0 card

I believe it has to be 9.0c because thats when Microsoft introduced it.

You need to have pixel shaders 2.0 enabled from the launcher's "Game Options" menus

Yah works on my Radeon 9800 Pro. Driver upgrade maybe?

Bloom looks f'ing sweet especially in space. During beta the lag on the ground caused by bloom made it unusable on ground but they seemed to have optimized it a bit, so I run with it on all the time now.

Yep, Bloom is only available on the newer graphics cards, and only if the card is DirectX 9.0 enabled.

The double-lighting pass is very processor intensive. On the ground, my FPS are literally cut in half with it on.

I still fail to see it's appeal - it over-rides the anti-aliasing on my radeon 9800 pro just making the game ugly, not to mention my framerate.

Bloom is horrible! It causes at least a 50% drop in frame rate. you find me someone in JtL with bloom enabled, and I'll show you someone with a $4,000+ computer...

I have a $4000.00 computer... and I don't run with bloom enabled, because I don't have a $1500.00 graphics card. It's a nice graphics card that *can* use bloom, a Radeon 9800 Xsomethingorother, but since bloom entails doing a *second render* of every frame, well, naturally, it drops frame rate in half, because the card doesn't have 1 gig of onboardvideo memory to play with.
