pvp fights are over in a few seconds and it's no fun at all to be dead after 2-3 shots...

As I posted in another thread:

Damage is high in PvP, but it isn't crushingly so. I have been killed by quick salvos from foes, but that was because I had people get the drop on me, which I consider my fault. At the same time I did exceptionally well in PvP in Kessel today, and although some may see me as a griefer, and Kessel as a griefing haven, I had my most exciting play ever today.

Here's my story, I'm grinding for my Tier 4 boxes in Kessel. I am taking out a few rebel gunboats in my TIE Advance, and after my second kill I notice a rebel pilot nearby, I quickly target through everyone nearby and I realise that I am facing a full squadron of PC rebel players. I decide to grab the bull by the horns and switch my power to weapons, I come in low under the first target, a Y-wing and lay into him with my blasters, his shields flare, and collapse and I stay on his tail as he tries to turn with a second salvo his engines are gone and I see the pilot away. I target again and realize that the rebel A-wing, the only ship there that could out manuever me is turning down, and only 200 meters away, I cut power and turn upwards firing into the belly of the A-wing before he can aim down, that's two. Third target is an X-wing he knows I am here and is turning toward me I cut in low under the arc of his cannons (which could take me apart) and fire into his tail, his shields hold as he turns around trying to get me into his firing range, I cut power and turn to fire right into his cockpit, and empty two full salvos. Two left, first is another Y-wing, he fires a salvo at me but it glances off my back shields, I don't want to chance a missle which could destroy me outright, or even another salvo of laser fire which would collapse my shields, (And since I have no armor probably end my flight) so I accelerate under his craft, and turn upwards as his bulky ship lazily tries to come in line. I have all the time in the world to dump my blasters into him. Finally there is another X-wing, being hassled by two NPC TIEs, I feel almost guilty as I line up with his side and take him out.

When I hypered out after this combat I was absolutely enthralled. Seriously I have never had more fun in game. Each and every combat even though none of them took more than 20 seconds, was a pure rush, the danger of one solid hit taking my ship out (It is a light figther) made me feel an intensity that planned PvP lacks, as I walked the razor's edge of taking apart an entire squad of grouped Rebel pilots.

Now I admit that what I did could have been griefing, I have no idea whether the group I fought were themselves a gank squad hoping to kill a few Imps or a team of green pilots getting a feel for the big game in a scary new area. Either way I took out five of them on my own, and nothing could happen like that with a 75% reduction. Frankly at this point space combat is about getting the first hit, coming in at the right angle, and keeping your ship outside the line of fire. That is how it should remain. You need to be aware, you need to keep a heavy ship protected by interceptors, and you need to have a strategy. That one pilot can walk the razor's edge and kill an entire group is a good thing in a flight sim. Would Top Gun still be cool if Maverick couldn't shoot down a half a dozen foes, because each sortie took twenty salvos of fire?

Allow me to ammend this and add that today I ground two boxes of Tier 4 in Kessel and had another four or five PvP engagements, damage appears to be near perfect, you can kill a foe in a few salvos, (4-5 blaster hits) but in general my TIE Advance takes 2 passes to kill an X-Wing (about 10 total hits) nobody should get ten full hits in without some dogfighting, and all my foes took two passes, that seems about perfect to me, the advantage comes from flying well and maneuvering outside the range of your enemies lasers, and that is what a player needs to learn how to do to improve in any flight sim. Damage reduction would mean that PvP battles would not be decided by piloting and who came in on a good approach and got in the best hits, it means that the best equipment would always dominate, and would make vehicles like my TIE Advance and the Rebel A-Wing obsolete. I prefer having hope of winning on manueverability and not needing to use tank ships because every battle comes down to a face to face who can outdamage who slugfest.
