Never tried ords on the vette but did you have a clear line of sight on the targeted system component? I am pretty sure you have to hit the exact targetted system and missing at all or hitting an obstruction won't damage the vessel at all.
If you were able to see damage with blasters but not with missiles that hit the same spot it must have been a bug, if blasters didn't hurt either its line of sight or missing the targetted

You only need LOS (line of sight) when you use guns to target components. Missiles dont require LOS at all.

Me and a couple of guildies tried to target the thing. The usual beeps that give you the green light to launch ordnance never ever materialized. I had the problem and so did my guildies. Everyone was going crazy trying to get it. I even rammed into the damn thing because it pissed me off so...
Blew up about six times!
By the time it was all said and done the Corvett simply jumped out again after we damaged it with only guns.....

Youneed to aim at the component to get a lock, no LOS required so you can aim straight through the corvette.

Target the component and aim for target lead reticle (green crosshairs).

Could you possible be closeing on the 'vette to fast. It take's "just a few seconds" for the targeting computer to lock, no lock no fire. With something that big I would think dumb fire would be great, but we can't do that. Try slowing down, if you can and stay alive.

You don't have to actually see the component when launching ordinance at it, but you do have to be aimed in the direction of it.
If you want to hit the engine, you have to have your ship pointed at the back end, and the front end for the bridge, and the neck for the shields, etc.
Remember, you're locking onto the COMPONENT itself, not the ship, just keeping the ship in the center will not do it(unless you're angled that way by coincidence, like if you are locking onto the engines from straight behind or straight in front of the corvette, just keeping the corvette itself centered would work for that since the engine itselfhas more height and width than the rest of the ship and it's centered from boththe front and back).
