Thread: Why can't JTL be like X wing alliance.
JTL is different, and has to be different. JTL was made to be the space aspect of SWG. It is NOT a space shoot 'em up. Its just a different arena for playing SWG.
Besides. Its too late to change anything now...the expansion has been out too long, and there's too much based on it.
JTL is different. Live with it.
Acutally it is

Because X-Wing Alliance is an existing game, that you can go out into the shops and buy. Loads of Star Wars and other games are based off an XWA-like system. If you want to play games like that, I'm sure you know where the games shop is.

Actually, you're a bit off the mark. Ifyou remember from the a dev interview before JTL was even in Beta, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter (which belongs to the venerable X-Wing series) was the inspiration which JTL was supposed to try to emulate.
There are people, like myself, who bought into this. Why? If it was anywhere close to the X-Wing series, it would have been great. I preordered JTL blindly in this hope: To see a modern version, a "sequel in spirit" to the X-Wing series.
I was in JTL Beta and received my preorder of JTL. It isnowhere near the X-Wing series. In "spirit," content, variety of ships, number of ships, missions, immersion, and flight.
JTL will have the flashy graphics over the old X-Wing games. But these old games feel far more like Star Wars. The game "TIE Fighter" is a far superior Star Wars space game. It felt and looked like a Star Wars game. You truly felt like you were flying for the Imperial Navy, despite the blocky graphics... even if you load it up today (which I have done).
You are correct in this: It is far too late to change JTL. Even back in Beta, people were asking, "What's to do?" Sadly, nothing has changed, even now.
