Hey all. I'm a little puzzled here and maybe it's just because I'm new and I don't understand what I'm looking at.
I've upgraded to a medium fighter after completing my "training" missions, and started to install all the goodies I had looted off the scum I blasted out of space while I was training. As I compared the shield and armor upgrades against the prototype version that came with my "beginner" fighter (I'm a neutral privateer, so it was a Scyk Light fighter), it looks like the prototype versions have generally better ratings than most of the stuff I'm looting off the baddies. Am I understanding this correctly?
For instance, my "Prototype Armor" has a rating of 217.4 Armor and 250 Hitpoints. So far, the best alternative I've looted is Baktoid Shock Armor with an Armor rating of 214.3 and Hitpoints of 214.3 (the same). I've had the same "problem" with shields, and haven't found anything with ratings that exceed my Prototype Shield Generator with a rating of 300.00 front and back. I've got so much extra mass and reactor energy on my craft, I'm not worried about that (but I am aware of those factors).
Am I missing something? When I looked over the Bazaar market, I also couldn't find anything better than these Prototypes.
Thanks,
~Snowy

Level2 looted armor and shields wont often beat the prototypes. Level 3 crafted items and loots would beat it handily. It's an advantage given to new pilots, so they have time to learn to turn and aim.
