Thread: How Escape Pods should and need to work...

I have always thought the ejection system could use work... since realistically if you were to eject from a starship or use an escape pod you should logically go to the nearest Planet and land in the wild somewhere randomly. Hense the nature of an ejection system, now if you die in space yea spawn at the space station but have it where you end up with cybernetic implants to replace body parts... I mean if you eject at least you don't suffer massive wounds and BF... but you have to have a cost somehow for that.... Just a thought...

You get the wounds like that because your ship doen't take actual damage.

Yes, it needs repairs, but the componants and chassis don't take damage like getting blown to bits does.

I think that if you eject your ship should blow up, but your now in command of an escape pod, which is unarmed, weak sheilds and armor, and between 800-1000 speed. If you can get back to the station you get your normal ship back, with some damage but you dont suffer any wounds. If your shot on the way back, it would be like dieing in a fighter normally.

I like that, but have the escape pod move even faster and be pointed at the nearest planet. You can't control its speed at all and you can only alter its direction enough to avoid obsticles. Once you get close enough to the planet, the game loads you into some random spot.

I love the idea of changing how escape pods work...excellent suggestions! At the very least, a passenger should be able to use a escape pod on a PoB ship without blowing up the whole frikkin' thing.

A passanger can use an escape pod in a POB ship without blowing the thing up - unless they changed that at some point.

Think about it - if a passanger using an escape pod blew up the ship, that would mean that a player can maliciously damage another players stuff because of the decay system. That wouldn't be in-game.

The only thing I really feel needs to be changed about escaping is the animation. I mean c'mon... it looks like we're usinga /selfDestruct cammand or something. A pod, or our character wearing a breathing mask, should be ejected from the cockpit while the rest of our ship spirals away. It shouldn't blow up, and us along with it. Isn't the point of escaping so you don't die?
After the character is ejected, we just load into the station as always.
