I did the missions and when I go to escort the ship and make it look like it's important I destroy much more than 4 measly waves of enemies but it still says Mission Failed. Any help on this?

This is from my very poor memory, but lets try this.

After the four waves, you get attacked ambushed and are required to take them out. Then you are sent to another wpt and you have to scan the area for rebel activity. When you arrive there, you will automatically start scanning for activity and every 10% completed will be displayed on your screen. I believe the mission is done after the scan completes.

I don't think we're talking about the same mission.
