Thread: Replacing my pad with a stick: Force Feedback worth the extra cost?

I have been using my force feedback Logitech RumblePad my first two days in JtL, but I am finding it a bit too tough and imprecise to use the small thumb sticks during hectic dogfights, so I am going to buy a joystick tomorrow.

Since I would rather not spend a small fortune, I am wondering whether it is worth the extra expense to get a force feedback stick? Judging by the rumble effects in my current joypad, the effects in JtL seem rather week - really only feel anything when the crazy AI rams me .

Recently having bought a decent force feedback steering wheel for racing games, I am very well aware that the rumble effects in a pad is a far cry from "real" force feedback - so how are the effects in JtL with an ff stick? Worth the extra price, or so weak and infrequent that I will barely notice them?

Please lend me a little input on the subject before I run out tomorrow and blow more money than I need to . I know there are several threads on joystick recommendations, but I really only need to know whether to go force feedback or not.

Depends if you have other games, or plan to get other games that would use your force feedback stick. I'd say no if your just gonna use that stick just for JTL.

Maybe I'm spoiled by console controllers but force feedback to me is a standard feature, so yes, get one.

All of a sudden my pad started giving feedback when firing shots (quite strong actually) when I fired up the game and took a space mission just after writing my first post.
Same ship and same setup I had used earlier today with no force feedback except on ramming as I mentioned. No shooting effects when I was in my noob ship yesterday either.
It felt pretty cool actually, and I would assume that an ff stick also provides some resistance when turning?

I think I will go for a force feedback joystick - who knows, I might return to the few space sims I have lying around but never really got into. I doubt I will be as impressed as I was the first time I used my force feedback wheel to drive a Lister Storm around Spa in the recent GTR press demo though - now that is what force feedback is all about .
Anyone using a joypad, a stick, or even worse, the keyboard for racing games have *no* idea what they are missing. I guess the same pretty much applies with a joystick versus keyboard and to some extent a joypad when we are talking flight/space sims.
Trying out my wheel and pedals in X2 - The Threat (space trading/combat sim - and a very pretty one) just for fun was not really much of a success either .

Thanks for the replies.
