Check out this thread:

And read some of the primers there first.

If you're new to space combat in general, here are some pointers:

1. Hitting Tab brings up your nearest NPC target
2. Your "Q" and "E" keys roll your ship
3. Targeting an enemy ship in combat should be a combination of turning and using roll to manouever the enemy ship into your crosshares.
4. Don't always run at max throttle, you'll end up overshooting your target, which takes valuable time to turn and correct, it's better to slow down a bit on the turns, and stay behind him.

If you want to earn Faction Points in space, you must go to a friendly faction station and declare yourself (by hitting "C" to target the station, then typing /comm to communicate with it) regardless of your status as overt on the ground.

Anyway, good luck!

Hey. I am a newbie to JTL and I am finding combat really hard. So far I found that tabbing helps quite a bit on keep track of enimies. Any other tips to make combat easier?

Get and maintain a flight computer/astromech with variations of the following programs - Reactor overload, weapon overload, engine overload, capacitor overcharge, and capacitor to shield shunt. You can get programs from other factions with unprogrammed droid chips.

I'd say 90% of the pilots who ask me for help aren't running droid programs. It takes time to find the programs and computers, but it's very worthwhile. I'm almost to the point where I won't help people anymore unless they've first tried running programs

Are you a pilot and not using Droid Commands?
