New to driods and im also a rebel. Was interested in using a driod for flight and was wondering which specific droid do i need to buy (will any r2 unit do or does it have to be a specific astromech)? After the purchase how do you program it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Hey Trimosko,
There are 6 levels of droids. At novice pilot, you can only use a level 1 droid. But as you go up the profession you can use more advanced droids. From what I can tell, the better droids execute the commands faster (and hence you can issue more commands to them in battle).
The droids are programmed using blank data chips. A droid engineer can make these by the crate. The data chips need to be programmed. Any pilot can program a chip based on his skill. So a rebel pilot (1/1/1/1) can program a data chip to shunt shields to rear. Once the data chip is programmed, you can plug it into a droid for execution. I think the level of the droid defines what level of command you can use too.
Once you have the droid in your ship and it has a programmed data chip, you can press ctrl-a and go to the droid tab. Your droid commands are located in there. You can macro them, or just add them to the function bar (F1-F12).
Hope this helps. If anyone can clarify a bit more, please do.

Ok guys, I have searched and read all I can. And I still cannot understand how to properly use an Astromech in my Y Wing. I am 2222and I have an R2 unit. Everytime I go to program it, it gives a message that there is not enough space. What must I do?
Thanks

Well, each level of flight comp/astromech gives you more space to store programs. Each droid command takes up space... the higher the level of the command, the more space it takes up.
Usually, you can't just dump everything into your droid's memory, you have to pick and choose. There's a progress bar (yellow/red) in the display that shows you when the droid's memory is full.
Have you tried adding just one Level 1 command, to see if that works?

What's the level of your R2 unit's memory core? If it's pretty low (or nonexistant) that might cause some space issues.

How Can I tell that? If it is low or non-existent, how to I increase it?

Need to buy a droid with an astromech module. If you check the properties of your droid, it should tell you what level it is. You can't upgrade the module, you have to buy a whole new droid from a Droid Engineer with the module built in.
Check your pilot skills though, because you can only use certain levels of Astromech droids.
