basicly if you have a group of a few players 3 in fighters with tractorbeams and cannons, the Y-8 would be equipped with full mining lasers, and the starfighters can tractor in the rocks that break off and when there small cargo hold is full they can unload by docking with the Y-8 thus transfering cargo from the starfighter to the Y-8 so its cargohold % goes up instead of the starfighters. ofcorce you would need to be groupped with the Y-8 or have consent like draggin or reviveing a player. but the idea would make the Y-8 more practical in space.

That'd be awesome, using a Y-8 as a kind of base of operations.

That's actually a really good idea. I've been doing something similar recently, letting a fighter break up the chunks and then tractoring them into my Y-8. But this would be even cooler. The Y-8's strength is it's massive hold. The fighter's strength is it's speed and maneuverability, making it better suited to chasing rocks. Put the two together...and presto.

How do you get the tractor to work in the Y-8?

Have you gotten mining from the Y-8 to work at all? I tried it, but chunks never came off the main asteroid. I'm not sure if the Y-8 was the problem or if the asteroids were bugged (I tried to mine from 3 different rocks in the naboo system, maybe I should have gone to some place more remote).

Anyway, my plan, if I ever get good mining lasers and a crew to run them, is to arm the forward gun and top turrent with miners and the rear with a tracker beam. I set myself at a fair distance, face to the target, and begin to fire at the main rock with the forward gun. When a chunk comes off the top turrent will be responcable for breaking it up into smaller pieces. By now the smaller rocks should be behind me allowing the rear gunner to tractor them in. In theory I should be able to hold a static location and only roll the ship to give the crew at my turrents a clean shot.

sure a lot of stray rocks will likely be missed, but rather than worry about each little chunk I should bring in a steady stream. Also, picturing it in head it seems like it would look pretty cool, all 3 players doing their separate jobs as once.

NOTE: none of this covers defence, so I'll need to have some one else running protection (one skilled pilot should be enough).
