Thread: Turret Accuracy Possible fix

There have been complaints on this forum in the past and present about turrets being to accurate on NPCs. I personally agree. If you are in the turrets firing arc, you are probably being hit. I have no problem with NPC and Player skill but I do have a problem with NPCs cheating.

What I see the problem is with the turrets themselves. The turrets can move instantly. If you want proof, use a turret with your mouse. You can go from in front to behind in less then a second. Turrets should have a turning speed. It shouldn't be slow, but definately not instantanious. If it would take 3 seconds to move the entire arc, I would bet that the turrets would have a harder time hitting a craft that is maneuvering. Right now the NPCs have a clear advantage since they know where they need to shoot to hit and they can move the turret instantly there. Even with random movements, our hit bubble (the bubble around our ship that counts as a hit)is large enough that the NPC hits regardless of player skill. The only exception is in a really fast ship like the Awing, you can maneuver fast enough, but most other ships have this problem.

from what ive seen lately the npc turrets got nerfed. even flying a large target like an xwing they seem to miss every now and then by huge ammounts. like i can be right behind an aggressor and a shot will go way off to the side like its shooting at another target almost, but im the only thing there.

i guess its a "stealth fix" lol

I agree. I have made a post on how to make MP ships better and turrets was on of the topics I talked about. I suggested a beam weapon that would be used like a missle is used now. This weapon would simply slow a enemy ship down in order to give the turret operator more ablity to hit there target.

you should still have to target the beam weapon on the opponent to then target them with the lasers. just hitting a beam weapon to slow any enemy ships around you is stupid. that would become the DOT of space.

Well I think your miss understanding something it would work a lot of like a missle targets. The beam weapon is notnew. It was from the old game tie fighter. People who played that back in the day know that it didn't slow every ship in space around the ship. But rathersimply the targeted ship and you had to be pointing at it. Plus be in range of course.

And it would not be a DOT. The beam weapon itself would not give fighters any damage what so ever. Simple slow the targets engines, lets say 25%.Howeverthetargetstill has 75% of its power to fly by, giving the gunner only about 2-3 more secs to shoot at their target. But that would be enoughto make it much easyer for the gunner to hit their target. If you want to compare it to something on the ground it would be more like warcry or intemidate than a DOT. Something that would slow you down rather than hurt you.

And of course it coundn't always be on it would be able to be used for about 5 secs or so at a time. Then have to do a recharge.

If you think about it MP ship currently have the bad end of the deal right now. They cost the most, need more people to run and are the first to be toasted on the battlefield. Turrets can't hit most of anything due to the pilot moving the ship while the gunners keep lossing there targets when the ship takes a turn. A beam weapon would simply help gunnersout and help makethe fight more even.

Sorry I guess I didn't explain it very well. I had it on my other post and I guess since I said it on that post I forgot I needed to restate it here as well hehe.
