First off i am loving every minute of JTL...
But after playing for a few days i think the devs may have missed one of the best resources freely available to them for taking feature sets from..
the Xwing Series....
A couple of points i'd like to make (although knowing full well none will be acted upon)..
the radar system in the Xwing series was a very good and intuitive system.. one for front and one for rear.. it gave you a very good spacial sense of all targets within your range and more importantly a very good spacial sense of where your target is at relative to you..
if there is one thing that should be added i would say this simple radar change would be a much thankful improvement over the current system (basically the ground radar in space, doesn't work well)..
Targetting in the Xwing series when compared to JTL is light years ahead..
you had several targetting options..
Cycle Friendly
Cycle Neutral
Cycle Enemy
(all of these could be cycle forward and reverse)
Nearest Enemy
Enemy Attacking You
Assist (target ship attacking current target)
more importantly, at least i think, was the ability to save upto 3 targets into hot keys.. excellent for quick targetting objective craft etc..
Currently i find it very difficult in JTL to target what i am after.. it seems there is just a cycle enemy .. and that is it.. i find myself using the target under reticule more than anything.. (btw the Target last ship that attacked is bugged or something, if you destroy one ship and 2 are attacking you, it fails to allow you to target to the 2nd ship with the key)..
A small feature which helped a lot inthe XWing series was the ability toremove the cockpit, now this is more of a preference than a needed feature but i found dogfighting tobemuch better and much more fun than the currently restricted view ofthe cockpit.. even though thecockpit view is more realistic, theability to remove it allowsfor the compensationof what a human being sitting in a cockpit would be able to really see.
I think JTL does a great job so far, but it just seems the XWing series (kudos to Mr Holland) had much more intiuitive features..ofcourse ittook him 4 series to really polish the style.i'd be lying if i said i wasn't suprised that JTL didn't use a lot more of XWA's features, considering JTL is for all intents and purposes the MMORPG XWA.. And the phrase that comes to mind is..
Why reinvent the Wheel? instead of trying to reinvent the Xwing series in Space, why didn't JTL just use an already proven feature set?
anyways.. off to blast some more pirates...

and for the Love of All That Is Holy: give these enemies some better AI. I'm 1/4 through Tier 2 and all it has been so far is CHASE THE DANG GUY AROUND IN A CIRCLE ALL DAY.
Bah!

You won't say that when you are in Tier 3.
You will get smoked on every mission unless you bring 5-10 friends.

The X-Wing Series had brilliant features, I can't believe they didn'tcopy them. It would take the gameplay of JTL to a whole other level.
Things I also liked was the ability to target and shoot incoming missiles and the ability to switch weapons with the press of a button and link each weapon individually and trigger instead of seperatebuttonsthem all with the joystick trigger, like it is in the Star Wars books.
Also, the commands to attack my target, cover me, head home, ignore target and such that could be confirmed by a simple hit of the space key were very useful when flying with groupmates and assigning tasks.
What I also miss is that NPC ship namesaren't numbered, which is a pain, as you can't say everybody, target the leader, TIE FIghter Alpha 1 and concentrate fire on him, especially with the missing 'attack my target' or /assist option.
Plus, the AI in the X-Wing Series was way better as well.
Let's face it, JTL is more of Wing Commander than X-Wing/TIE Fighter, which is sad.

maybe the did'nt want to copy features etc from the X-wing series because they wanted to try and keep the game original and not make an X-wind series clone.

Uhh.. kudos for the radar thing..... but you CAN turn off the cockpit in fst person and you can cycle through friendly players, enemy players, enemy ships, friendly ships, closest enemy ship, closest friendly ship, closest player ship, cycle through capitol ships... so on and so on if i missed any.
Go to your keymap under controls in options for the targeting. The option to turn off the cockpit is in graphics.

OK I think you should start reading the manual or checking your keymap because all (and more) of those kinds of targetting options are in JTL. You can cycle specifically PCs or NPCs as a whole or just friendly, neutral or enemy versions, plus nearest versions of each also... ect..

Clearly you have not read the manual, all of that is in the game. How about reading the instruction manual before making yourself look like a complete noob.
more importantly, at least i think, was the ability to save upto 3 targets into hot keys.. excellent for quick targetting objective craft etc..
Currently i find it very difficult in JTL to target what i am after.. it seems there is just a cycle enemy .. and that is it.. i find myself using the target under reticule more than anything.. Once again you need to read the manual, you can remove the cockpit graphics just like in the xwing series.

Everything you listed except for the saving any three targets to a hotkey are in the game and only if you have bothered to read the manual you would have known this.
