I only managed to get 1 day of beta played as I was busy testing another game, and besides I knew I'd be flying in JTL. I had heard that the game designers from Wing Commander (from many years ago...hehe) worked on JTL. Whether true or not, I have found the universe very similiar and I am loving the space flying. (I had as well flown the first Star Wars flight sim.)
In beta I had tried privateer, but couldn't get by the assassin and switched to rebel and at least got to fly 5 missions there instead of being stuck, and I figured they would fix that soon anyways. (Not sure if the encounter was fixed yet... have heard some folks having trouble with it.)
So I chose Rebel again in the live version. Off I went and did my first mission. Then bought myself a Z-95 chassis and started building my own ship. I flew through most of the tier 1 missions and was really enjoying this, until I got to the last one (8th?).
This is the one with the imperial ace. So I killed the ace, I am sent to the next waypoint, more waves and then another ace (or two) and then off to yet another waypoint and more aces. I was about to quit out and bug the mission at this point. None of the other missions had taken this long. I thought I must be stuck in an endless loop, until the 4th wave hit and then all of a sudden there were 4 aces coming after me.... ah, I realized that there were waves and each was getting harder. I did manage to finish the 5th wave (with 5 aces) and finally got the command to return home.
The comment I have about the first set of missions, is that while the first 7 missions were fairly short, AND required some thinking, I found that getting thrown into an hour and a half fight for the final battle was a bit much. It was totally unexpected.
I then got sent to LoK (I had started on Corellia for tier 1). I get to LoK and on my way to grab the first mission, got jumped by a Nym's Guard. (an old problem from the themepark days that has still not been fixed... so I bugged this! although not sure if it will do any good. /sigh)
I go to get my mission from this Lady Viopa and she sends me on endless experience missions. What? Where are my next missions? I had 1-1-1-1 in flight training from the first round. So I try all three categories that she sends me on, fly around to some other worlds, sightseeing and come back to LoK and try again. I am thinking perhaps I have to grind all through tier 2 first? Well I only needed to do 2-1-1-1 and she gave me the shuttle mission.
I get to the shuttle waypoint and some other folks are there. They are killing everything in sight and even the shuttle. Um... now what! So I join in the killing spree and get yet more experience. Finally I see the shuttle! I disable its engines! I dock and retrieve my mission. Good I thought. I undock and the other 4 imperial fighters shoot me down. It turns out the other folks had left the area while I was trying this shuttle and I was on my own. /sigh
I go back down to LoK. 4 Nym's guards jump me and I am lying incapp on the ground. I watch one hammer away and destroy my new speeder. This is not good... is it worth yet another bug report? Why bother. they had not answer my themepark bug or the previous day one. I figured posting here might do more good. This nym's guard thing is a serious problem to someone that may be a crafter and not a fighter and get blown away by the stupid guards, while trying to get their pilot training.
/rant off
So I guess I will head back to Lady Viopa on Lok this week and see if I can get through the tier 2 missions.
The only real points to my rambling was that while I am still very impressed with the space parts and the battles and the building of your own ships, there are still a few things that could use some tweaking.

I am having a blast. I m halfway through Imperial Pilot and at 2222 i can take anything Tier 3 and below, and some 4s. Its definitely helped by some very nice components i ve looted.
Visually i think its gorgeous, the colors are rich and the textures are above good. The sound is all the SW bells and whistles i couldve hoped for. Controls, i think they did a good job.. i enjoy playing with the mouse/keyboard more than a joystick.
As for fun factor and replay value, i cannot stop playing it. The only thing that ends my play is sleep.

I'm having a blast too. Eventualy I'm sure it will get a lil boring but hey flying is just 1 thing to do in the whole universe. My advice to everyone is take things slow or else the game is playing you instead of vise versa.
