*SPOILER*
I've done this mission almost six times now and have yet to be able to finish the mission due to a very annoying 'feature' which I hope you all can help with. Flying the starter ship, I can zap the three escorts without problem. No sweat at all. The little a-wing is very problematic for me. I can see and hear hits on his shields. Sometimes I see the shield go down, and other times it doesn't budge at all. Further, in all six attempts, he disappears before I can nail him. I got a guildmate (Omag! Wazzup!) to come along and we tried the same mission together as we happened to be at the same level. This time eight ships spawned (no sweat, we both had the mission). He managed to blow three away and just as I targeted the 'Ace' when the remaining FIVE ships disappeared.
What am I missing here? I've tried killing all the escorts first. Leaving the escorts alone. Leaving one escort and then going for the ace. I'm frankly about ready to give up and try another pilot career.

Use the [ key to target his engines. It gives you a chance to slow him down and disable him for a kill. Much faster than general destruction.

But why does he disappear? I've not tried cycling...but is there some reason *FIVE* ships just disapear? I sent in a CSR ticket last night and haven't heard back so I'm hoping someone has the answer this. Do they hyper out? Time out? What? I have to fly back to corellia to restart the mission which is getting very old...very quick.

I believe you have a limited ammount of time before he hyperspaces out of the system. What worked for me was killing his mates first and then throttling down to about 70% and disabling him.
