I'm new to JTL and just curious what it means. I'm confused since I saw a firespray with Tier 1. If understand correct it's the difficulty level or something? I fought the firespray but I couldn't break his shields down of course I'm still in my starter ship.

All four of your first boxes in your skill tree (going horizontally)are tier one, and so on.
As far as seeing an NPC Tier 1 Firespray, don't know what to tell ya. Never saw one myself...

Tier 1 ships are basically the most simple form of computer programming, in ships equipped only with items availiable to Tier 1, utilising abilities only availiable at Tier 1. So, even though an X-Wing is a Tier 3 ship, they can be present at Tier 1, as its just a chassis. Think of it as if a Tier 1 pilot was given an X-Wing, or an Interceptor, or whatever, and told to fit it up. They'd let him fly, but he could only use equipment suited to his pilot level.
Its as if you took a Master Rifleman, gave him a CDEF, and took away everything but Head Shot 1 from him, then sent him off to fight. He looks all perty, with "Master Rifleman" above his head, but the weapons are pants, and he can't do anything special.

Ok that's what I was thinkin thanks peeps.
I still find it sad how easy it is for me to blow up Tier 1 X-wings. I can't understand why the alliance would be giving such good fighters to pilots who are so stupid they can't blow up a Tie Fighter. I dunno I'd just prefer to shot one tuff X-wing and get 800 xp then slaughter about 10.

Yes I understand things change once you get to Tier 3 and such.

Wait til ye get some Ion Cannons. Strap 'em on your TIE (if they actually make Ion Cannons for TIEs...). They're great against shields, so you'll knock those out on higher level ships. Unfortunately, you don't have the hull damage. Missiles would be good, or a wingman with hull-damaging weapons. Or, something like a Y-Wing (or equiv.), with two sets of guns.
Watching the shields on ships vanish is kinda...depressing.
I feel sorry for them...

Well, alot of the Tier one Xwings are called cadets, and they have to learn at some point how to fly it.
