Thread: Okay people can be inside spaceships in movement but why..
I have heard that you will actually be able to have 1 pilot and 2 gunners in the YT and then also carry 8-10 people that could be dancing etc. inside the ship ! Can the ship really carry that many ? that would be a relly nice feature!
I think it is possible for a techincal reason, that is not possible in a speeder.
From what I have seen and read, here is how I think it works:
The ship is like a house, and loads only its interior as a single environment.. It does not have to update the outisde images for all occupants. No where have they said someone on the ship can look outside and see what is going on. I believe the front cockpit view, and the turrets are seperately loaded environments. Even though you have multiple people on the same ship, none of them share a single view of the outside world. The turret view is different from the cockpit view. The passengers are in a seperate environment and don't have to update the outside world.
The devs have said that multi-passenger land vehicles require two peoples clients to be perefectly in sync so that they both see the exact same thing. That is the huge technological hurdle.
Or so id imagine.

well, heres the real deal. The space game runs on a totally different engine. Its like loading a separate game. It was designed from the ground up with the capabiliity for multi-person ships to be a reality. The ground game was not so designed. Think about it, try having a race with some friends in vehicles. If you send a tell saying you are winning by 30 meters, your friend might inform you that on his screen he is winning by 50 meters. Its just not very precise. The space game will supposedly be designed in a way to make this possible. And it is possible, because your machine is rendering MUCH MUCH less data in space. You dont have terrain every meter of the way with trees and buildings to render. You just have the background, which is about as intensive as the sky on a planet, and other ships in the area. This is a much smaller load on your machine, and will allow greater accuracy.
Or so id imagine.
Actually, the game uses the same engine (engine as in graphics engine), but the design is different.
Which is basically what you said, just don't confuse the engine for a different game design.
Or like Joint Ops.... oooo, I love that game. For those that don't know, about Joint Ops, it's an army game, with vehicles land, air, and sea. In the air vehicles you can just walk into the air transport, u don't have to press any button to get in the vehicle just walk in (unless u wanted to sit down, or control it). I have a very good feeling is this is how it's going to work, plus in Joint Ops you got to look outside while in the airlooking at sea, terrain and everything, while walking around the air vehicle. I hope this is how they are going to do it with the SE, let you look outside of the YT-1300 and see the awesome battles that unfold...oooo...I can see it now.
(a passenger looks out the rear window and decides to /tell the wookie in the turret), "Gar! there is a *insert space craft here* on our tail! take it out quick!!" (Gar responds), "Roger that!"
Apparently from what i have read whilst on the ship, you can even go and visit the cockpit. The pilot can also get up and move around the ship so...it wouldnt be seperate.
here it is from an interview with Haden Blackman
YT-1300 does allow passengers to roam around the interior ship while it is in flight. It can be furnished much like a flying house or cantina. The interior of the YT-1300 is fully rendered. When you launch your YT-1300, any people in your group will be placed aboard the transport as passengers when launched. The group leader will be pilot by default. The YT-1300 has two gun turrets (lower and upper) and they can be populated by other passengers flying inside the YT-1300. Move through the interior to the ladder and click on the ladder for a radial menu that allows you to select the upper or lower turret. Passengers can even visit the cockpit with the pilot. The pilot can also get up and roam about the ship. When this happens, the ship continues to fly in a straight line on it's last course and speed while pilotless.
If I can find the link I will post it

Yea but if you look at that video taken at E3 of the wookiee going into the turret, there is no laoding screen, it's almost instantenous, wich suggests that he HAS loaded the exterior...![]()
Of course it will. It is a video, shown at E3. Do you think they would show the ho hum parts, lol?
NarCranor was just repeating what a DEV said, that they are using a different engine all together. I read that as well. So who knows....as long as it works
.
XWA was originally setup so you could be gunner in the corellian freighters, but kept that option out of the original release due to bugs and horrid lag in online play. All you had to do was edit a text file and open up the gunner option. Was quite fun the very, very few times it was stable.
