Interdictor Cruisers occassionally appearing in regular space.
The effect could be the equivalent to the crackdown, or having an "escape" event.
Having an Interdictor appear in a zone, say Tatooine or Corellia, would cause any players hypering tothose zonesto come out of hyperspace within 3k of the cruiser, or any player using a "travel" option to transit there would be transported to their ship and "dropped out of hyperspace" near the cruiser.
TIE Squadrons would patrol the area where players were being pulled from hyperspace and would attack all Rebel ships and scan any neutral ships. Smugglers Alliance fighters would be attacked. Imperial Ships would obviously be let go and any player using a travel terminal to "shuttle" to that planet could avoid the inconvenience, since their shuttle is on the payroll of the Empire. Yachts would be immune, so all the dancers/musicians throwing parties on their boats would not be inconvenienced in their RP.
Players dropped from hyperspace by the cruiser could escape either by taking part in its destruction, or making a run for the closest neutral space station, and landing. They could also fly to the very far end of the zone away from the cruiser and hyper out from there. There would be a minimum of 10-12k distance from the cruiser to engage hyperdrives.
The Cruiser would remain in thatspace for a set amount of time (say 2 hours) or until destroyed by players.
For those who are not familiar, Interdictor Cruisers are gravity well generator ships that look like smaller Star Destroyers. They have the effect, when active, of pulling any ship in a certain related range of hyperspace back into normal space and preventing ships in the area from hypering out. They were a staple of X-wing and TIE fighter line games.

Now this sounds like a good plan. and is great for rp content. but I doubt it will ever be in game.

Probably not, but no reason that it couldn't be done. I don't think the required code would be anything that haven't been able to do.

Nice idea.
All except the part where people using the "travel" option actually get pulled out into space. That's just bad... sometimes when travelling, my joystick ismoved to the other side of my desk, or behind my screen, or even unplugged (rarely, but has happened). It'd be kinda' dumb having to move my desk around to place my joystick where I can use it, all the while getting killed....

Its meant to make you think twice before hitting the travel button. Right now, space isn't very formidable. If you had reason to worry, you could travel your yacht, heh. ![]()
Right now space is a tad static. It needs a bit more dynamic action.
