Thread: 56Kers and Jump To Lightspeed: Is Lag An Issue?

Due to where I live, I only have access to a 56K connection. I rarely have problems with lag in the ground game, apart from near the Geo caves (for obvious reasons).

Is anyone playing JTL with a 56k connection? Could you tell me if you're having any problems with lag? Or any other connection speed related issues? Thanks in advance.

I have dial up and some some god aweful reason I can't seem to connect faster than 34k, which while hampering on the ground at times causes me no problems in space as of yet. I was remarkably happy with the lack of lag in space for me and I was even playing at a 31.4k connection for most of the day yesterday. Shouldn't be a problem...

Thanks for the info.

Needed to know as I've already ordered JTL and I was thinking of buying a Saitek X45 to use with it, but if it was going to be lagged to hell, there wouldn't have been any point. Anyway, thanks again for the info mate.

I never pay that much attention to the star ratings I get, but thanks none the less.

as i played much shooter like online games it seems to me like the local pc is calculating complete PvE fight on its own and is only "afterwards" snychronising with the Server, but will be interesting if the same technic is used in PvP...

However, it looks like this as in all prior shooters or similar i played when i had pings above 300ms there where 2 ways what happend, even i clicked to shot, and about half a second later i saw the shot, or the other way i saw the shot hitting the target but it did not hit as the target was half a second anywhere else than i saw it. All this is not happening in JtL and its like shooting in a singleplayer game, so i would say dont worry about lagg, the only things happening with lagg sometimes is a little warping which doesnt matter much

But it is a little funny to see the ship ahead of you skip a meter or 2 in some random direction multiple times. All I have to say is can I have a ship that can do that...

I played SWG and DAOC on 56k dialup and never had a problem ... even with the big RVR battles that you see in DAOC.

In fact since I switched to my cable modem which gives me 70ms ping in SWG, I haven't noticed all that much of an improvement. It IS better but not by a huge mile imho.

Lag in SWG and JTL is more a RAM size issue than a bandwidth issue. I remember moving from 512M to 1 G od Dram changing radiccaly my life in CNET

Yea, I made sure to get a gig when I got SWG, but when alot of players are around like out a large base raid, there's only so much my little modem can do.

I have been playing SWG on dialup for about 1-2 weeks. I haven't had any problems as of yet, I got my JTL package in the mail yesterday (fedex) and I installed and downloaded a 3.5 hour patch, so when I get home from school today I will probably go jump into space and see how it is.

Like some posters said earlier, its mainly your pc specs more then your internet connection that matters. So i'll post my experiances in space when I get home later today. (Probably around 6pm est I will log on..)
