Thread: A needed expansion for JTL...

My contention was to create two limited access planets for rebel and nuetral, which I will explain below, Cloud city for nuetrals, using the n00b tutorial space station interior as a template for current stations and give us access, and create a SD and NEB-B with limited access (bridge) that can be docked with. Finally, create Death Star wreckage that we can travel to.

1) Hoth and Corusant. Hoth would be a rebel only planet, Corusant an imperial only planet. Perhaps faction quests would be available, lowest faction prices, bonus items. Both planets would have a very limted travel area....perhaps something the size of a Starport, like the capital building in Corusant and the command bunker on Hoth. Corusant would have limited traffic currently due to galactic civil war travel restrictions around the capital. Hoth would be under construction, so extreme cold exposure would be an issue. This would limit where you go in the extreme on both planets.

2) Cloud City. Lando is already there perhaps, with Lobot, good for neutrals, just like for imps and rebs it would be a place to trade goods and get missions and goodies you cant get anywhere else. Access can be limited just like on Hoth and Corusant.

3) Using the n00b space station tutorial as a template for all space stations.....allow us to dock, perhaps bring missions inside on an NPC, put a bazaar terminal offering ship parts, the ability to customize or repair your ship, etc. JTL content on each station. Some interesting content could be added here with very little work.

4) Star Destroyer and Nebulon-B for Imperials and Rebels.....access to bridge only, ability to meet the leaders of each faction, faction perks, missions, etc. Perhaps 'wingman' missions can be offered here, where two npc ships go with you on a specific mission.

The idea is to give some added perks to belonging to a faction, add some content, make space more interactive and realistic. The final suggestion is to implement the same system in space that is on the ground. Combatant and Special Forces, so pilots that do not wish to PVP can participate in the GCW in space.

Opinions and suggestions welcome.

I've been thinking in these terms too.
Mainly about the "small map" system.

We don't need the entire Coruscant and Hoth. Just a start of it.
If Coruscant should be only for imp any part of it is good.
If anyone would be able to travel there it should be by smuggling or something since I've read somwhere that no Xenomorphs are allowed there during the rule of the Empire.
But one should be able to sneak in and stay in the slum quarters at the bottom of the city.

Hoth is great. Something for rebels to do. Maybe smugglers too. Travel there with crates and weapons. Fight some Wampas, tame some tauntauns. Have a snowcone. But it would be great if you had to be properly dressed to survive. Or atleast not get huge minus on your stats.

More "small-maps" would be great. Since it seems that the Wookies get their homeworld now, the other species should also have somwhere to call home.
Trandosha is in the same system as Kashyyyk. Add atlest a station belonging to Trandosha, where 'doshans can hang and feel "home". The planet would be even better. Atlest a small map. Just a space port or a city.

Same goes for the rest of the species. Mon Calamari should be easy. A city on the sea. Maybe some sublevels. And restirictions to go deeper or out over the water. a nice oppertunity to add Quarrens as a player race. And maybe even some other aquatic-species.

As a Twi'lek player I would love to see Ryloth. And since we already have Naboo the dreadful Gungans should be added as a player-race.

I love cloudcity and would like to see a expansion with it. Survey-missions for artisans to gather tibanna-gas in the clouds, alot of casinos (give us sabacc and holochess!!!) luxury hotels, malls and hopefully stores and appartments to rent. Gimme gimme =)

The Imp Star Destroyer idea is good to. These things are huge. Flying cities. Give us some parts of them to walk around in. Imps ONLY. Perhaps sertain restricted passports for hired personel; tecjnicians and some bounty hunters. Maybe a way for rebs to get in an sneak around. Do some slicing missions.
Actually. Its from these things you should have to lauch you tie-fighter.

Access a Lambda Shuttle from the ground. Fly up to the ISD (seen from ground) and launch your Tie from the hangar. No civilian crafts allowed unless its being searched =)

And when your at it. Add some neutral space-stations you can enter. I want to sit in a cantina in a space station and watching the ships dock.

Im not so sure about the wreched Death Star though. But some abbandoned space stations or space ships you can access and do a "Corvette" mission would be great. Maybe there infested with space jawas. Or some beasts that got loose and slaughtered the crew. Dianoga?

As you can see I could go on and wish for ages. So I just stop.
End of story. I liked the starting post alot =)

Curuscant would be crazy! That place is all city. Just look at what the cities we have do lag-wise.

How do do Curuscant?

Instanced missions to Curuscant. Make it feel like you are there, but limit the area you can go to. Kind of like the Vette, but bigger, of course. Maybe a size of a medium city we already have. At least a few areas like that.

This way you don't have tons and tons of lag, plus the fact devs MAKING Curuscant would take forever since it is all city.

Ok, I think Coruscant, Hoth, and Bespin should be added, the smaller areas as suggested.

Being a rebel, I would want to go to Coruscant, but probably wouldn't be able to, I'd get caught by Imperials. But I'd still take the chance to go there. Planets shouldn't be limited, but their should be HEAVY resistance by the faction that controls them on each.

Coruscant should have batallions of Stormtroopers patrolling everywhere. Hoth should have Rebel patrols all around. Bespin should have the Bespin Security Force.

Now, in the small areas of each, there should be a few key landmarks. Coruscant NEEDS the Imperial Palace, a cantina, and a classic floating spaceport. The Coruscant area should be one of the areas in the upper part of the city planet. Since the area is small, every building needs to have something in it. Hidden Rebel cells in some buildings, smugglers hiding out in the next. None of the buildings we see around Coronet that have doors, but stay shut and have nothing in it. Just for show.

Hoth needs Echo Base of course, the Wampa caves, an icy form of the regular cave like the narglatch cave. And wild wampas out in the open areas, along with tameable and mountable Taun tauns.

Bespin is basicly Cloud City. Lando should be there, and you should be able to do mining missions from him. Mining in space to go along with Rage of the Wookiees.

Also, home planets would be good too.

Some good ideas. I think there are alot of planets to choose from. Of course, the overall concern would be lag. By limiting access you limit the impact on the server.

The lag would be bad only if the entire planet was built up as an explorable city. From orbit you would only see the lines and lights, so this is just a flat texture. Add in about a dozen traveling transports and it creates the planet. When you go down to the planet, you only have access to the capital building, perhaps one or two levels, with no windows, or a single set of windows in the old jedi chamber with textures and simple models outside to show the city.

Finally, a planet like this, plus ships and such added could go on another server, like the Kessel area should. It should have a new logon-post process, so access would be slower but the public server would unpopulated by this extra content. Again, just some thoughts.

Even if just a special station or ship was done in orbit it would be better than nothing.

Many places (like Jabbas Palace) and alot of missions is off-limit for Non-fighters,

The new storyline quest they put in starts with retrieving some items from a crashsite. The site is guarded bya bunch of pirates that con red to me with my trusty combat droid out. I am without fight skills and can be trusted with a cdef pistol to shoot myself in the foot. I had two options. Drop some of my skills in favor of fightskills, decide it's combat only and off limits to me... hey wait a sec, I'm playing a MMO! There are people around that wouldn't know a storage module from a crafting module, but do know one end of a gun from the other.

I actually expected some fighting in the new storyline, so before I went out I contacted some people if they were interested in doing this together. One responded immediately. While he was busy fighting the pirates that were spawning at an insane rate I managed to find the spot we needed to move over to get the items for the next stage of the quest, so I wasn't just along for the ride even The guy that helped me out with this mission happens to be the same one I helped out a lot in space. I had fun helping him, he had fun helping me.

Some weeks ago I wanted to do the quest to get the Droids Head schematic. Went out again with my combat droid, managed to get quite far at the expense of a couple of incaps and a lot of droid repair kits but got stuck in the end. Again asked for help and 20 minutes later a friendly fellow citizen of my home town came to the rescue. For him I had spend an evening decorating his YT. I have a blast decorating so again a fun both ways situation.

Moral: there is no content off-limit for non-fighters, if you're willing to invest in relationships in this game.

This is one of the reasons I'm anxiously awaiting the CU even though it will not effect me directly. I'm hoping it will stamp out the solo mentality that has taken such a strong hold in this game. MMO's are about doing things together and I don't mean the oxymoron solo-group!

I do admit that a large group of players seem to play with a calculator next to the computer running xp/hour, pearls/hour, etc. calculations and it may take some looking around and convincing that doing things like jabba's themepark together can be fun. But remember, once you've found a couple, a whole new fun part of the game opens up to all of you!

i love all the ideas to add all these planets from in the movies and make it have a real star warsy feeling but im not to worried about all this because this isnt a must have everyone knows they will eventually put it in but right now they have to fix the bigger bugs of the game, i mean this game hasnt really been out that long look at EQ which has like 10 expansions in a couple yeras this will too and all the small servers now will be populated like bria then bria will have 100 people every 10ft

I don't think Coruscant need to be laggy.
If you stick with the lower-levels of the planet it could be "dungeon-like". Think subways and super-malls etc. More like they did in Neocron. That was a huge city, but you were "inside" it.

I agree that the roof-top parts probably would be laggy. And since it's what most people refer to from the movies it might be a good idea to add that too. But since it's off-limit to non-humans I still think the lower levels would be more interesting.
But maybe the game don't have to be fair for all species. Many places (like Jabbas Palace) and alot of missions is off-limit for Non-fighters, so to exclude the ability for all species but humans to land on Curscant sounds just like the balance currently in SWG. But they probalby make it "only fighters may land" *sigh*

The roof-top part COULD work...
Maybe just a mini-level (one or two rooftops) foggy drawing distance and just textures showing other buildings around. Could be a landing platform for imp-humans only. Some imp-terminals and ability to take off into space from there. And a elevator down to the sub-levels where all other player can arrive.

Another thing that would be great with Coruscant is the Big-city stuff.
There can be a reason for alot of the "stupid" addons like the holo-emotes.
I can't see why the farmers on Tatooine would have them. But "cool" people from the nightclubs on Coruscant would definitely have them.

Yes, that is always a option. And thats a good one.

Although I feel abit disapointed since I dont have so much time to play the game. So grouping is a pretty alien thing for me. Not enough time to get to know nice people in the game, and not enough time to play at the same "rate" as others. To keep doing missions togetherinteresting.

Its right that the option to group are there. But I should not HAVE to group. I never saw C3PO and R2D2 group with a guy in composite and buff to kill a Tusken leader before entering Jabbas Palace. They just spoke to that TTL-unit. Did Oola kill a Tusken? Did Luke? Did anyone in the court of Jabba do that? I guess everyone got there in their own separate way. More contet!!!! =)

Ofcourse some stuff should require you to fight your way to win (its alot of that in the movies). But a place as important as Jabbas Palace should have multiple ways of entering.

Guess I have problems with this because I try to roleplay. And the game is announced as a RPG also.

In roleplaying there are always hundreds of ways to solve a task. So give us atlest 3 ways to do it in.

FIGHT your way in. Like it is right now. Kill the Tusken and meat-beast and all that.

CRAFT your way in. Offer Jabba a new droid, or special-soup or something.

ENTERTAIN your way in. Dance for him (on the trapdoor). And make it good =)

But as I said in my previous post. I can "buy" that some places are fighters only if others are "chefs"-only or something.

Nomather how hardcore fighter your character are..you HAVE to boil some eggs before you can meet with Xizor. OR find a chef to do the work for you. Then its justice =)

What I would like to see is atmospheric flying. Ever play Rogue Squadron for N64? You could fly over cities and stuff. Mabye we could do that but have an invisable wall so tha we cant fly into buildings. I'm sure it CAN be done but the difficulty and server issues.. Im just not sure. The DEVs should add it though it would make my day.
