I believe that droids/flight computersare being used for the most part, as well as they can be, with one exception which you did mention. Going higher in the Droid/Flight ComputerUse tree should grant you faster hyperspace route calculations in my opinion.

Before I get into the meat of my argument, I would just like to say that I love JTL and think that it is a great game, but (don't be surprised, you all knew it was coming) I was disappointed to find that droids have a very minor role in the game.
Astromech droids have been in the game forever. They were useless for the longest time. The DE revamp came along and they had more use, but they still didn't serve their primary function. Now, we can use astromechs for what they were intended, I still feel they aren't being used to their full potential. They abilities that droids have in starship piloting are functional and accurate. I think that there should be other benefits to droids in starfighters.
With droids, you would think that calculating hyperroutes would go faster. Perhaps your targeting computers would be a little more effective. One of the biggest things that brought me down came from the Rebel line of piloting. The two different Y-wings specifically. Was I the only one hoping that you would be able to "slave" the turret forward using the droid? The same is true of the master level multiplayer ships. You could have a few droids that could roll around repairing things. Maybe 10% every 20 seconds so that it would still be better to have actual players flying the ship with you. As it stands, droids are functional, but they still haven't reached their full potential.
I know what I've suggested sounds anti-group oriented, but that is hardly the case. I just always felt that droids served more functions on ships, especially starfighters. The ability to "slave" your guns into certain firing patterns or directions always seemed like something the droid would program on the fly. Improved accuracy while firing, not to mention energy flow through the entire ship would be maximized by the astromech. Even decreased hyperroute calculation times would be a function of astromechs.
It just seems to me that our droids are extremely limited in what they can do. None of what I suggest is gamebreaking in the least. It would certainly remove the need for the y-wing longprobe vs the regular y-wing. It could make way for different droid combinations.
For example, we could have modules installed in droids that can allow them to maximize energy in your ship so that less energy is used from your capacitor or your recharge rates are faster. The greater number of modules, the greater the ability is. Same with Hyperroute calculations.
Please tell me what you think.
