Can you be both a privateer and a factional pilot?
No, the pilot trees are 3 different. You can however be rebel or imperial on the ground and be Freelance pilot.
What are the advantages to not being a factional pilot?
You get help from your factional npcs, thats it I think.
What are the disadvantages to beinga factional pilot?
Cant really name one disadvantage right now, not sure if it is.
Do advanced privateers have equal advantage as advanced factioned pilots would, in regards to ship speed and power?
Basicly yes, privateer pilots get the same equipmentlevels as factional. IMO some lacking droid commands. The big drawback is that Freelance pilots will not get a Uniqe master pilot fighter. What freelance pilots needs is a interceptor type craft at master.
The ships freelance gets are rather big and slow compared to Awing and Tie Advanced. Both the awing and the TIes are alot smaller targets than freelance ships.
Can privateer's declare faction to assist fellow factioned players in space combat?
Yes indeed. As a privateer doing the Tattoinian quests we have no allies
I can declare in space to fight for rebels / imps. Although I need to be rebel / Imp on ground to do that as far as I understood it. I really only tested the Rebel side when we got a chance to shoot a dev.
