I am having serious problems changing my pitch with the mouse. I can yaw left and right with the mouse no problem, and I can roll with the keyboard, but I cannot make any significant pitch changes while using my mouse. I had to eventually keybind the pitch to the keyboard and use that to change direction--otherwise I physically cannot outmaneuver other ships.

Has anyone else had problems with this?

Go into the options/controls and adjust the Dead Zone on the mouse. I normally play with the dead zone at 0 on the ground but in space with the mouse I had to set it to about half the slider then you can control the ship in space. It also handles better in 3rd person rather than first.
